I was just about to post this question myself. I read that too on a yahoo group I am pert of. I thought that was the whole point of having the IN COLORS. So they kept the color families the same, and were able to get more "current" colors in the in colors.

We're all waiting for the official announcement in about 6 minutes. . . . .. There's been a webinar with manager level demos - but I haven't seen it officially yet, still waiting for the official word. . . .
I own all the colors and still use many of the retired In Colors. I'm hoping to pick up some more paper for those colors that have been "retired" It doesn't stop me from using the colors just because they are retired.
The real pain point is for the demos, who let's face it...are the cash cow for SU. It will be a lot of money lost for demos and they will be stuck with loads of product they can no longer sell. It's true some of it will come back into play if they hung onto retired In Colors. They've done this before and no one is really missing Mint Melody
Loads of paper and ink coming to the BST forum soon for CHEAP ;)

I am really excited! With the exception of a few colors like Creamy Caramel. Close to Cocoa and Summer Sun, I really won't be sorry to see them go. I really like the new color families much better. I am excited! I think it is about time that SU! revamped...the colors were starting to get stale. Hooray for SU!!!

I think once the initial shock wears off people will see it as a good thing. I was not happy at first but i'm getting really excited now. I don't do change well but change happens!
It's just paper and ink...it's not a disaster, as another demo pointed out it's not as bad as miners trapped in a mine due to an explosion or cancer or any number of horrific things that could happen....perspective.
Try to embrace the change, I think it will be good. Change is inevitable!
Well SU is getting of 4 colors I still used from them. More PTI cardstock for me.
Me too, they got rid of several of my favorite colors, and I don't particularly care for several of the in-colors that they brought back. i think I will finish my PTI collection and be done with it. I'm not going to stock up on a bunch of paper that I won't want to use because I can't get anymore.

I am doing the same thing. Finalizing my switch to PTI cardstock.

No, it isn't a disaster, but many people have quite a bit of money wrapped up in the color family system and it is not cheap to buy all the cardstock, ink, markers, etc. for the new colors. I like the cube ink pads; I doubt that they will be selling those individually, and I don't want to by a new color family that will give me a bunch of duplicates. I'm sitting here wishing that I hadn't wasted my money on that last batch of reinkers. I'm not going to stock up on cardstock that I can't replace, so I really doubt that I'm going to use the matching ink pad.
I hope everyone can just be a little patient as we sort through all the details - the demo's are just learning about it now.
According to the info I'm looking at, there's going to bundles in the new catty that help customers as well get just the new colors easily to try them out.
There hasn't been a major change to the colors in 5 years.
I don't know about you - but I'm not wearing the same clothes I wore 5 years ago. It was time to refresh the color palette. When you see them all together they really do look fresh and lovely.
believe me- the demos realize how much is invested in everything.
but when you paint your kitchen- it costs money, it's not cheap, let alone your time or if you pay to have it done. But who sticks with one paint job for the entire time they live in the house? When you tired of the avacado 70's color with orange appliances you have to put the money forth to change things up- to make it more modern... you don't leave it no matter what because it costs money...
Generally, I don't have a problem with SU updating their color families. Trends change, so updating is necessary.
What I don't understand is why they would eliminate "basic" colors like yellow and orange, replacing them with more trendy versions. One of my favorite combos, for instance, is yo yo yellow and turquoise. Replacing the yellow with the more orangey Daffodil yellow doesn't cut it.
Of course, it's also frustrating that I just updated all of my markers a couple of months ago. :/

I know, I know. Trust me I have a LOT wrapped up as well. We don't know all the details yet so just hang in a while and see what it's all about. That's all I'm saying. I'm just trying to stay positive that's all. Trust me, I was PISSED last night when I found out. But I'm not good with change so I'm working really hard to except it. If you have not opened your stuff and it's not been past 90 days you can exchange it! And you can stock up on stuff if you'd like and still use it, at least until it runs out.
And you don't need to get all new stuff all at once (trying to tell myself that too but it's not working, I'm going to NEED it all right away....can I register for my wedding with SU???? hahaha).
All I'm saying is try to hang in and not make a rash decision. You may like what happens. SU did not enter into this lightly and unfortunately no company can make everyone happy all the time. Again, just trying to look at the bright side (and speaking of brights OMG I like the new ones like 100000 times better than the old).
Again, I am very sympathetic I have a TON of moo-lah wrapped up in this stuff too!

Sounds to me like you're set and you don't need to buy those replacement colors that are not up to your standards. Just stock up on some of those basics when everyone is purging them in the BST forum for pennies on the dollar and you'll have enough yo yo yellow and Only Orange to last you a lifetime!
Colors going away for customers really isn't that big of a deal. Extra's will be available to buy more prevelent than in colors because sooooo many people have them. It's the demos who get hit in the pocketbook because they have money invested in something they can no longer sell.

Wouldn't most demos have picked up the In Colors already? So, I'm guessing that many demos won't have too much to re-stock, unless they'd already used up all of their paper.
I agree with the others who have said that change is good. It's kind of fun to see a fresh new palette.

I am disappointed because I have seen their new color palettes and, unfortunately, they are retiring many of my favorites and I have never really liked many of the in-colors that they brought back to fill the gaps (except wild wasabi and baja breeze, love them!). I can't really say what I think of the brand new colors, of course.
And some of the "new" color combos that are already starting to surface are very pretty. Cherry cobbler, early espresso, crumb cake- i think i will put those colors together just because they sound scrumptious!!!

It's definitely different and a little more fresh. Maybe give it some time. Again, I know everyone has different faves. I HATE some colors that others love and visa versa (is that how you spell that???). SU is a business and has to do what's good for it...they have done a lot of market research and looked at sales of all the colors. Any store, such as clothing stores do the same thing.
And, every time we get new in colors I HATE one...or more sometimes BUT every single one has grown on me and I have used all of them. So again, let it sink in and digest. See the colors in real life and see what these amazing crafters here on SCS do with them. Some of us might change our tunes.
SOOO excited about the new colors update! What gorgeous, yummy colors!! I can't wait. My new favorite color combo might be just around the bend. That was the best thing about the In Colors--shook me right out of my color rut and opened up a whole new world!

The current in colors would normally retire with the new catty on July 1. Three of them - Soft Suede, Rich Razzleberry, and Melon Mambo are staying.
Really, for demos that have all the colors - it's 5 new colors, and 10 returning in colors - so it's not really that bad. I just finished getting all the classic pads and ink. There's only 6 colors I don't have.
This is by no means a disaster, and even as a demo I am not a cash cow!! I am a customer first and buy what I like. This is not my fulltime, pays the bills job. This is my fun, hang out with my friends job. I will miss several of the colors that are leaving but I am excited to add the new colors to my collection and so glad to see some of the old incolors coming back! If I look at the color list, the ones I use the most are still there. There is only a handfull that I will really miss. I will stock up on what I know I will use for personal things. I took a look at Bold Brights, for example, and honestly, I use red for Christmas, Valentines Day, and barely use the other colors in that family. I like them all, I just don't use them much. I think that the new colors will offset, the loss of other colors. I am excited to play with new stuff....

I'm really excited too. I will definitely be stock piling my favorite retiring colors, but the new ones are fabulous!
So, when will the new colors be available? I have to admit - I'm bummed by the lack of pretty purples, but like the selection for the most part.
Everything will happen in this next catalog. You're going to love it! It's all so fresh and invigorating. I loved the color families before, but this is an improvement I didn't even realize I would enjoy.

As a former demo, I have a fair amount of $ invested in SU ink, card stock, ribbon, etc. I do love matchy-matchy stuff! As a huge fan of PTI, I've often considered selling off all of my SU stuff, but just haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet. I'm thrilled with the new color families and am happy they're bringing back so many of my favorite in-colors. Now what to do with the retiring colors...I still have some ink and card stock from the last time they retired colors. True, they're what I've let my kids use. Maybe their 'color family' just grew much, much bigger. ;) I'm almost afraid to go down to my stamp room to put the retiring stuff all in one place to see how much it is.
the buzz is that a concord color will be one of the new incolors- so guessing that would fill a purple--- but don't shoot me if ya can't make your grapes if it isn't so...

Since you're a former demo, you don't have to phase out all those colors you love. Just keep using them! Just because it's leaving doesn't mean Taken With Teal won't still coordinate beautifully with Tempting Turquoise!
AS a demo, I only keep and use what's current. As a non-demo, you have the luxury of using whatever you love and strikes your fancy, even if it's not (gasp!) SU! ;)

I didn't mean to offend you. Just stating that my opinion is SU makes a very large slice of their profits from purchases by demos. This is not a bad thing, not negative towards you as a demo...just a fact that if they change a core product it will mean huge sales because their demos will "need" it to sell or just plain want it. I think the change is a GOOD thing
