There is a little button underneath the posters informetion on the left. It says either on or off, with a little asterisk next to it. What's that for? The reason that I'm asking is that when I was reading the thread, I thought that it might have something to do with invisibility, but after a previous poster explained how to go invisible, I realized it must have some other function.
I voted for none of your business... not because that is true, but because I really don't know!! I thought I might have switched it to invisible once, but now I can't remember and I can't remember where to go to find out!!!
If I had changed it at some point, it would have only been because I saw the option and was playing around with it. Not for any good reason.
Same for me. After reading the OP, I went and checked. I was already invisible, so I just stayed that way. I'm like a forum ninja.

The on and off buttons mean just that. "On" means the user is on SCS and "Off" means they are not (unless they are in invisible mode, then they always appear off).

So, another question, why do you care if people see you are on SCS for a long time? I certainly dont care what people think of me in cyber-world or the real world.
It is on at work the entire 7.5 hours I am there and then from when I get home sometimes until I go to bed....I may not be sitting there surfing but I am signed in and on SCS...am I a dork or wierdo now?? What do people think of me for being here so much??
My issue with it is that sometimes I might want to send a pm or make a comment specifically to someone that just posted and it says they are "off" so I dont pm them or comment because I am assuming they arent there and I dont want to talk to myself, KWIM?
Thanks for all the info as to why you are on or off.
I'm always set to invisible. SCS is my homepage, so even when I'm not at my computer, I'm always "on". Sometimes I just want to lurk and read and sometimes I want to chat, and sometimes I leave the computer and the screen is still up.....it works for me.

The asterisk is there to report a problem - if you click on that a message box pops up that lets you report if there is something going on that shouldn't be.
And Jimmi I'm visible all the time, what the heck I live here why try to hide it? If someone really wanted to find out bad enough they probably could anyway!
I have my browser on all day while I'm at work. I had assumed that eventually inactivity on the site would cause me to be off. But after reading some of these posts, I'm wondering if I'm always "on". Anyway, I thought I would try and figure out the invisible mode. Can you see me? :p

You're invisible. I do think, but not sure, that inactivity causes you to be off, too. I'm not certain about that, though. One of the techie people would have to chime in on that.

If someone wants to stalk me and figure out what threads I'm reading I'm honored! teeheehee
But how does it work when I have 8 SCS windows open? What does it say I'm on?
I'm sure it says GS, Tool and Product, Maybe Gina K, and of course BCBW.
But does it really say 4 things or just picks one? Because if it's only gonna show one I want it to show "Looking in the gallery for unique inspiration and motivation like a good crafter"
not
"sitting on her fat butt looking for more stuff to buy or waiting for her chat friends to post and make her lol"

Erin, it shows whatever your last action was. Unless you've gone to send a PM or browse the gallery, your profile will likely give "Viewing thread: Are you invisible?" as the last thing you were doing.

No, you're not a weirdo at all. Very normal stamping behavior!

LOL... I've actually tested this out with a friend while we were on the phone. She, not invisible, had several SCS windows open. The one that was "active" was the one showing up in her profile. When she switched windows and I refreshed her profile page, the newer window was the one that showed where she was on SCS. Does that make sense?

I am visible and often find my friends to chat with on here. If I check off, then I would miss them. I do go invisible for other places when I want time to view without being disturbed.
This was fun reading all the comments. I'm new on here again, after many dormant years, and love SCS for all kinds of wonderful reasons. Very helpful and informative. B is for Bunny.

I voted no. I've just never given it any thought. Kind of like using the ignore list. I didn't realize what it meant until I read a post about it. I thought it just meant that if you put someone on the ignore list they couldn't pm you. I didn't realize you would actually be ignoring all there posts. And apparently there are people out there who others want to ignore. LOL Anyhow, I don't really care if someone knows I'm on here. It's not like they can jump through my computer screen and grab me. LOL

I'm too darn nosey to put anyone on ignore! LOL I tried it once, but I promptly took the person off of ignore! :-P

I'm not invisible but I can see the advantages. This is a big site with lots of posters and I don't suppose for a moment anyone would care if I was on the site or not but if I was a high profile user and getting lots of PMs when I just wanted to have a quiet read I would go invisible in a flash I think people who use the invisible function should "reappear" when they are actively posting though to prevent confusion - I imagine it's easy enough to turn off and on again.
No need for the red face. There's nothing like honesty, IMHO. But, I have to be honest, after I posted that response to your post I kept checking back to see what your answer was cause that was just too darn funny. I finally gave up and went to bed. Of course I'm back now nosing around, so to speak.

Me too;)
Cause if your posting and chatting up a storm you arent invisible;) You think you are but...
And people can still pm you if they want they'll just think you are ignoring them cause you arent answering:mrgreen:
I never thought about going invisable until I read all the reasons... hehehehehe.... now I just might want to. Made me paranoid! Course, I always have like 3 scs windows open at a time... so mine must jump a lot!
I also stay in stealth mode. Lots of people here know me in real life. Some of them don't mind making me miserable, unfortunately. I was being threatened a few days ago by a mysterious "new" poster, but that seems to have passed. LOL I think most people who really know me know to go ahead and send a pm. I'm in and out of SCS all day--and night. :-)
I've never even considered looking to see who is on or what they are doing! What's more, I'm nowhere near important enough for anyone to care what I'm doing! DH always says, "How's the talking about stamps world?" when I'm on. I think that puts it into perspective...
