Talking You know you needd to organize your craft room when...

[Alright, here's my thought...

I went into my disheveled space thinking. "Where do I begin?" This came to mind...

You know you need to organize your craft room when...

...it looks like the cat spent the day playing in your box of ribbons...
and you don't have a cat!

Anyone else out there like me? (pretty please!)

LOL, I have a cat! Can I still blame her? Mine's getting better. I'm organizing out of desparation. I can't find anything I'm looking for and am finding things I forgot I bought!

I'm pretty organized so my big issue now is that we are remodeling. We just put up a new wall (where the previous renters yanked it out) and all of my crafty things are all over. I hate not having my space set. With a toddler here it's tough to get anything done when I have to organize first then stamp. He usually wakes up before I get to stamp.

But good news on the horizon. My husband brought home this great lond cabinet that will be in the house in about two weeks. And we'll be getting a new comp desk to get all pretty and organized. I'm so excited. I bought some super cute containers at Target (turqoise yeah). I'll have to load some pics when it's done.

I am the same way. I keep MY table organized, but then when you look at the 'spare' desk, (I talk about it like a bedroom... hehe) you'll find everything.... and I mean... EVERYTHING. HEHE.. I'm getting better though. I'm switching shelves to drawers, and just invested in ribbon drawers. Oh, and the paper scraps are in a ... Well, I'm not sure what you'd call it. But they're organized too! GOOD LUCK!!!!

That's me...just remodeled master bed/bath last summer-fall...and one of our foster kids moved back in for awhile...so everything ended up in the craft room. I haven't recovered yet (and I wasn't thaat organize4d before!) It's supposed to be an exercise room, too. I have one of those raised mats to do exercises, but it's covered with stuff. My physical therapist would have a cow!!

I always keep my work table clean in between projects. Everything else is only somewhat organized. I do need to do something about a few areas though. My paper and card stock are stored in too many different places and I sometimes have to run back and forth when looking for stuff. Unfortunately I don't have room to change things around more than they are.

i am organized also i have to make sure everything is put away when i am done and in the right spots...i must have OCD...Since its my "sun room" it right off my dining room so it can be seen by everyone DH even laughs at me cause the rack he made for my ribbon is kinda suspended on the wall so i tape the ends of the ribbon so they dont unroll...I have to have new paper each time i create so that my new stuff doesnt stick where i used tape the last time..glad i invested the 25.00 in the big box of the computer paper that has the holes down the sides,(he wanted me to get a roll of crafting paper when i 1st started stamping) lol

I'm the same way. I have to have a clean and organized space before I can begin. After I start I tend to get a little cluttered and sometimes leave a little mess but I can not even begin to start again until it is cleaned and straightened out.

i use a straight pin to tame mine! seems the tape would sometimes stick and snag the end of some of my ribbons.

You are writing about how messy it it on Split Coast Stampers!

I envy all of you that can keep yours neat.

I think organization is a talent--and mine is still hidden.
My room is organized in only that I know where every thing is--not that it is neat.

If you are in a high humidity area be careful of rust which can ruin the ribbon all through the reel - wherever the pin touches (yea, I know...) I now make a notch/slit (or 2) in each reel and catch the end of the ribbon in the notch to keep it from unrolling...

Heehee..let me add to that..you know you need to organize when you have the same stamps AND accessories. I ran to the store to buy a corner punch and some Versamark about a month ago and I just found the SAME corner punch and some more Versamark in a bag I had stashed somewhere. ::shaking head::

I am organizing now...been at it for about 3 weeks. Maybe this will be the weekend I finish! I have gone through every shelf, box, and drawer and am horrified at the amount of stuff I am getting rid of! I am on my fifth box!!! How did I know it was time to organize? When I couldn't open the door to my craft room!!! Do you think I have a problem?!?!?!

Whew! Glad to see I'mm not the only one! I was getting worried with all you organized people chiming in!

I got a good start last night...but still a ways to go...ok, a LONG way to go!

I'm planning on finishing 2 projects that I began before Easter...then I want to do a challenge card tonight. If I'm not careful, the big mess will return!!

I once heard that very creative people are messy. (Beethoven was a slob...had to move out of apartments to get a clear space!) So, messiness could equal creativity? That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

MEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee! Please....

You know you have a messy area when:

Your bedroom is now part of your crafting room and your DH walks through and never says a word or looks up, but shakes his head...

You daughter knows to NOT interrupt and sits by you coloring in case she should become part of the mess and you loose her for days...

The items are soooo stacked up, you know you have a window, but haven't seen it in years!!

Ok, so I started organizing last spring, then came to a screeching halt! Now, we're having a b-day party for my mother in law this Sunday! I have to clean up...my little nieces usually go in there to stamp and color. It's not safe now!

You know you need to organize your craftroom when....

You put a halloween decoration on the door that says "Condemned, Keep Out" and you leave it up because it describes the state of the room perfectly.

I understand the being organized and having a clean spot. We just moved so I don't have my things organized as of yet. Yesterday I packed up a tote bag before I went to my daughters to babysit my grandson. While he was trucking around in his walker, I worked on some cards. Her dining room is well lit, so I made good progress. But then when I got back home, I had to face my tubs of things.....so makes me really want to get it all unpacked and organized. I have a different daughter coming over tomorrow to help me organize. She likes to scrapbook so I told her it has to be organized so that we know where everything is at. Wish us well.

Thought I'd add my own experience.

You run out of table space to heat emboss a card, so you do so on the floor, and melt the carpet.

this thread made me laugh today, as
you know you need to organize your craft room, when you drag just what you need to the kitchen table, so you can actually work on a project...
you use a nickel in place of your circle punch..
you spend 10 min. making the card, but 1/2 hour looking for all the supplies for it..
your kids and dog don't dare walk in there in case they bump, step on or find something important...

oh well, at least DH now has a nice birthday card.

You know when you need to organize your space when you spend more time looking for a stamp then it took you to make the card! UGH...very guilty of this one!

LOL! You know you need to organize your craft room when ...

You have so much cr@p in there that you still stamp in the Dining Room.

I have had a personal goal for 2 years now to get organized. Last winter I bought and installed the Elfa. This winter I hope to wade through some of the cr@p and start to use my Craft Room as a . . . Craft Room!

.. you can't see your desk under the scraps of paper?

seriously, i can't see my desk. but all of my stamps are put away. which is amazing. cause it's rare. but, i couldn't stamp at my desk if i tried. so i've been using the kitchen table.

I try to organize before I am going to do a major work out at my scrap space but it turns into another disaster while I am working again. I bought myself the big kick to emboss with and was certain that I did not get the two cutting pads with the machine. I emailed back and forth with my supplier and when I had placed my order for replacements I moved some stuff from a chair and there were the cutting pads. Then I remembered getting them a few months previously because of the cuts in them. I have tried adding several boxes and units to make my area easier to get around in and I think I have an answer but there is no room in this particular space. I have to wait until one of the kids moves out, lol, so I can have their room.

I can relate to this one completely! 2 days ago, I finally cleared off the main work space...the one that has the best lighting...so maybe I can use it again. I now have a rubbermaid drawer thingy filled with paper that needs to be organized! In other words, the heap just found a new home!
