I can fall in love with a set the minute I see it in the New catalog but...
I don't get around to ordering it until it is being retired.
What set or sets are you FINALLY getting around to order?
For me:
Morning Cup and Beautiful Season

Reason: correct spelling
I'm pretty good about the amount of SU! that I'm willing to buy. Right now I belong to a Hostess club run by a SU! Demo and we have to place a minimum order of $25/month.
So the only thing I had left on my list was the Two Tags Die and the Cuddles & Kisses stamp set.
Other then that the only thing I'm interested in that SU! carries is the Bulk clear mount stamp cases that they carry. And that's because I haven't found a good way to purchase them online or through anyone else. We don't have any Amuse Consultants in our area and CTMH doesn't carry those type of cases.
I got rid of all my SU! inks and most of my stamps. And am only keeping a select few that I truly love and know that I will use. And those I've unmounted and put EZ mount on the back. I'm even considering doing that with the SU! cling mount stamps that I have because they're cling is terrible. It doesn't really stick for very long. I've even been to a few classes where we used those stamps and they fell right off SU!s clear blocks.

I try to never buy retiring items anymore since I know from the past I tend not to use them....BUT I sort of freak out about this time and feel like I should order EVERYTHING I don't have, lol! I have issues..... :-)
I'm only that way on some things. I'm probably getting Hand Knit. I don't knit and have no intention of knitting, but I have relatives who do and who are in knitting groups and would like to have something to use for cards and gift tags for them. I have other sets that have sheep in them, but the Hand Knit set has other elements that are my relatives' style and would be a good addition to my stash. I've looked at the set since it came out and it's been on and then off lists ever since. Now that it's on the retiring list, it's now on my list to actually purchase. Any stamp set has to fill a particular void in my stash and anything like that tends to be a more specialty subject like the knitting one.
I've done that quite a bit in the past, but since my stamp collection is considerably larger now, I'm like other posters who say that a set has to fill a void somewhere. I think that the trigger is something like "OMG - I'll NEVER be able to get this if I don't get it NOW!" Fortunately, that trigger no longer works in the Sue-niverse This go 'round I got the Every Egg wheel (2 of them, actually - one to cut up and one to leave intact) and the Two by Two set. I have very few Easter stamps, and lots of babies on the horizon...
When I first get the catalog, I highlight all the stamps I want. I normally add to that list as I see cards done with them or have a project in mind for them. I am TRYING to spread that list out over the year....it's hard because I want it all.....NOW!!!!!
I make a wish list that gets revised many times throughout the year. I shop at many places (brick-and-mortar and online) so sometimes a need/want will have been met elsewhere.
And, I do have a budget so I tend to order consumables first and then prioritize stamp sets in order of (1) how often I believe I'll use it and (2) how soon I expect to use it (so in October I am more likely to order a Christmas set than one for Easter).
So, when the retired list is released there are usually sets that I haven't ordered. I cannot usually get all of them so I evaluate in terms of how much I love the set, if anything similar is in my collection and/or available elsewhere and how I plan to use it.
This year, I finally ordered the Bingo background. I wanted it since it was released but since I want it for a scrapbook that I plan to do "someday" it was always near the bottom of the wish list. And there are similar items (stamps, embossing folders) available. I like the SU one best because it does not have anything on the card so I now own it.
I also own lots of SU inkpads and will get 1 (maybe 2) refills of retiring colors. I also get cardstock for my favorite colors or those that go with patterned papers I already own. This year the cardstock colors were Regal Rose and Bashful Blue.
I have wanted Lovely as a Tree for years and years. Never got it, was still kicking myself for not ordering it ages ago when it was on sale half-off.
I kept expecting it to retire each year but it never did, and finally I bought it just last year. I thought for sure that would have doomed it to the retiring list this year, but no! Good for you LaaT, you're a gorgeous set and you deserve to stay!
I broke down and bought the Jewelry Tag punch and stamp set that goes with it. I have gone back and forth with that one and decided to just get it. I used it on a card for my Mother in Law last week and was quite pleased with how it turned out

That's a good one! I use mine all the time, no way it's going in my retiree sale next month.
I nearly never buy anything off retiring lists. Usually when a set retires I forget about it and move on. The only things I've bought off retirement lists have been designer paper, and now this year I ordered some of the polka dot ribbon that they're retiring, because I really like that stuff.
I do usually make sure I have whatever incolor stuff I want, but I try to order that during Saleabration, since that stuff tends to run out rather quickly.

I'm still kicking myself for missing 5th Avenue Floral and Medallion from last year! I just borrowed Elements of Style from my sister to see if I really needed it, and just may hold it hostage (we don't live close enough to share easily - have to mail back and forth).
I usually don't buy sets from the retiring list, but this year I just had to have Everybunny to match the wheel that went with it (and that I've had for a couple of years)...so cute together!

I do this too. This year it was Dig it....I think that's the name. The kids set with the digger.
Last year it was the princess one and the pretty pony set. If Lovely as a Tree was on the retired list, I'd finally get it! I sure wish I had gotten Inspired By Nature!

My wish list is very long. And I have a list of must haves. On this list are retired stamps sets from years ago. I finally got the Summer Sunflower set I have always wanted. I don't buy the from the retiring list as I know thru other means I can get it later. I try to find sets as cheaply as possible anyway. I may have to wait awhile, but that's alright.
I finally grabbed thoughts & prayers, swallowtail and four frames. I stay away from retiring stamps. If I havent bought it yet then I dont need it.
I keep an intense spreadsheet of my ordering and dont buy a stamp set unless I have at least 5 ideas. When I get the new catalogue Ill color code the sets I have and then tag the things I want.
No, I nearly always am ready to move on and see what's coming out. I don't think I have ever bought a retiring set. A coupe of times I have bought a set from someone selling theirs, at a very reduced cost. But not from the catalogue because it was retiring.
I guess I am on the other end! I look forward to retiring sets, because then it might appear on my demo's sale table for a reduced price (and no tax or shipping), or Ebay with more frequency (I know there are current sets on Ebay too, but perhaps not as often as retired sets are). I just bought Snow Much Fun (clear-mount) for $15 total, when the original price ($19.99) with tax and shipping and handling, would've cost me $23.95 total.
I still like looking at the catalogues when they first come out, but I have the PDF versions of the catalogues, and not the physical ones. So I mostly only look at it once (when I first download it), and not over and over again like I used to in the early '90s when I had the physical catalogues and they were mostly the only company around, besides DOTS and House Mouse, that I knew of back then.
