I put "lost interest", but it would be more accurate to say "couldn't get on board to begin with". I did ONE Zentangle project for a challenge several years ago, and that was it for me. I understand that it's supposed to be all Zen and everything, but to me it's a lot of repetition, and repetition is my absolute worst enemy! I loathe and despise doing anything multiple times (I so admire those who can do assembly-line production of cards - I SO cannot...), so for me it was crazy-making. Mindless doodling, on the other hand, I can do for hours. Zentangling is not that for me...
I used to ... before it was ever called zentangles ... didn't do it for years and years and a post on here recently got me going again when I have time just to sit and do it.

I really got into Tangling last summer when I ruptured a disc in my back, couldn't do much else because of the pain. It helped to take my mind off of it and get through the day. I now do it occasionally when I have to sit some where and wait. It is a great stress reliever too.
I just got into it and am having fun! I'm not an artist, so I don't do a lot of the more artistic designs, but the ones I'm learning are fun! Each of us is different. There are some crazy techniques that others love and I can't figure out why anyone would do that, so its fun that we are all different!
I enjoy it for a distraction, but I don't do it as much as I used to. DH always has the TV on, and if I want to just be with him, I will Tangle or play games on my Kindle. I have a huge stack of 3.5 x 3.5 tangled squares. DH keeps asking me what I am going to DO with them! (Maybe I'll put a border around the craft room...)

I'm late to the party too! I only found out about it a month ago. I didn't realize till this thread that I am behind on this trend. I thought it was something new!
I don't know how much I will do with it, but I bought a Zentastic coloring book and I'm having a blast with my grown up coloring book. So I am just coloring another person's Zentangle work, but it is designed to add your own doodles also.
Guess I'm a lazy tangler! Haha!

I didn't vote because I need an option that says tried it, don't like it. I never got the big attraction as to me it's just organized doodling and I'm not a doodler (is that a word?). But it's always fascinating to know what people like and why they like it.

The "I lost interest in it" would be the closest choice for you .
And you are correct it is sort of doodling but with step by step direction for drawing the motifs ( tangles ) .
I find it relaxing and a challenge to draw the Tangles so they look as they do in the books .

I was first introduced to Zentangle when it was a challenge here. Lydia is an advocate and suggested a few books which I purchased for further inspiration. I travel for work and to visit family regularly. I now Zentangle on the plane, as all you need is a pen and piece of paper. People tap me on the shoulder all the time asking to get a better look at what I'm creating. This reminds me to play around again as it really is neat and very relaxing.
I bought a couple of books and I have the pens - I just need to find/make the time and DO it! I'm also signed up for Lydia's class on it at the SU Convention coming up this month! :-)

I love Tangling! I cheat and use sketching pencils instead of ink. Shading makes me really happy & my skill has really improved.
I cheat too !
Rick & Maria who started this fad would probably gasp if they knew that I
practice new Tangles on newsprint with a pencil and I use a ruler for most straight lines and a compass for larger circles .
I only use my good card stock and Sakura Micron pens for a complete Zentangle using Tangles I have learned how to draw.
It is not really cheating it is "taking ownership" of the way things are done

I did a lot of zentangling while I was recovering from a fractured arm ( thank goodness my left as I am right handed) It kept me sane during that time, I found lots of great patterns on Pintrest, even did a cross piece for my church to use on one of the altars for Easter. Now that I am back to stamping I have not done as much. But I loved doing the Sharpie marker thing on white cheap dollar store plates and baking in the oven. Sold a few, used some as gifts, and still get requests from people to make them one with their favorite scriptures. I love it because there is no wrong or right way to do it, it is so much in the fun of creating and just going with the design that seems to come forth.
