Hey Trina - thanks for sending me this thread.
I am a SU! Demo and am in Cave Creek (Trina is in my downline), and I know that a bunch of my customers would attend no matter where it is located!
Hey girls! I don't mind hosting an event at my home for NW Phoenix ladies. I have a stamping room and can probably have about 18. I could plan some "make n takes", say 5 or so and we can make 2 of each. Also, we could do a "shoebox swap" ! Then the only cost would be for the supplies and everyone can bring a liter or soda or a snack? Would anyone be interested in that? We could shoot for Sept 30th or Oct. 14th? Let me know if anyone would be interested!
I was just thinking... does anyone live in a neighborhood with a community center? I'm in Anthem, and it only costs around $30-40 to rent a room at our community center (ballpark on the cost... it has been a while since I've looked up that info). I'd be happy to plan something, BUT I do live rather far north, and I'm sure many people wouldn't want to drive so far.
If anyone else has a community with resources like that, let us know! It probably will be much cheaper than a hotel or church.
Liz and I just hosted our first Stampin Retreat at the Arrowhead Country Club up in Glendale, it was great. 30 gals, stamping, scraping and doing make n takes all day long while being fed. It was a blast! The room was much bigger then we thought it would be...after everything was in there. Its a wonderful location!!
We had an out pouring of gals requesting another one around the holidays.... Other Demonstrators are encouraged to sign up and bring your clients. More to come on this...holiday retreat as it becomes available.
The shoebox swap discussed in this thread originally has not been held yet. Some girls in UT are holding one at a Golden Corral restaurant. They made a reservation, and the cost is what it costs for lunch at the restaurant. I was wondering if any of you are interested in this idea. This way it works because we don't have to pay for a venue. Input please . . .

A good idea, but we are at more than 18 I am sure.
Amanda, I think this is a great idea. But where is a Golden Corral still open in the Phoenix area? I would love to go, wherever you decide to hold the event.
Anybody live in or around the Val Vista Lakes area. They have a great room that would hold quite a few people. But I have no idea on the cost. It has been too long for me. I could find out if there is any interest. But then we would have to do the food thing. Golden Corral still sounds easier.
There is a Golden Corral in SW Valley, specifically Avondale/Goodyear area. It is right off the I-10, Exit at Dysart. This is about 40 mins. from most of the NW Valley (most of Peoria, Sun City, Glendale). I'd be willing to make the arrangement personally with the store manager if you think it may work.
Arrowhead is also an excellent option. Is that place free. There's also a Senior Center in Peoria (59th Ave.) that's really big and I'm sure it's reasonably priced -- like $60 for 4 hours.
There's a church in Sun City....105th ave just north of Olive that I go to a CM event once a month. This room is huge and also has kitchen privileges.
I know the cost is $250....but if this is split among 30 (?) it wouldn't be bad.
Just one more option.
Dysart road is really not far out for Phx. I think that is a good idea. Avondale is all new and nice too! Let's pick a date and then we will get Erica to set it up. Also, I am going to send out a PM to everyone subscribed to this thread with my cell number so we can get this going for sure.
Dysart Road and Buckeye (off of the 10 in Goodyear)
or
Baseline and N Cooper (Stapley) road just off of the 60 (in Gilbert)
Erica, will you call and see which location will work for us. Tell them we are looking at a Saturday in Aug/Sept. Then call me on my cell and give me the details. I am letting you call cause you said you would. If you need me to call, let me know. I think this is a perfect location because it takes care of venue and food costs and then we each just bring shoebox swaps for X amount of people depending on how many we have altogether, which so far is:

Hi there-
I've lived here in Mesa for 2 years now after having lived in Avondale for 3. I'd love to know more about your stamping get-together in Avondale. Please let me know if I need to PM you or what I need to do. My name is Becca (duh!). Let me know if you need more information.
Got your email on my "Posts" area as well. I will personally go to the maanger at the GC in Avondale. It's a mile from me. I will ask him if he can intro me by phone to the one in Gilbert. WHOW! 45 of us -- we may have to close the place down just for us. Too bad there isn't a neon sign in front of it. It could say, "Welcome SCS SU Stampers." Wouldn't that be fun. One quick ??? Are we looking at 2 to 3 hours?
I will call you on your cell Sunday PM with info.
Amanda, Have you picked a date yet and the cost. Actually, I need to know more on the date so I can make arrangements at work to take time off to come out there.

Yep in the Trailsidepoint Centex homes...right of 67th and Southern. We love it here. Once a month, the last Friday of the month, I have alittle gathering to make cards. Anyone is welcome to come. I generally only have enough room for 4 (so everyone has plenty of space)...but can add a table to my entry way to make it 8. Its a free create time...while the husband does whatever it is he does when I am stamping!
Next Date: August 25th 7pm - 11pm
Sometimes we raid the beer in the fridge. (often makes the stamping projects much more interesting)
Hi Amanda - my first name is Molly for your list. If we are voting on locations, I would prefer the Cooper one. Thanks for all your hard work on this. It is going to be a blast and I am so excited to meet all of you!

One other thought I had. Lets pick a date in Sept or October. My free weekends are: Sept 23rd, 30th, or October 7th, 21st, 28th. Ask the management at GC which will probably be the slower weekend for them. Also, I was thinking that once you talk to them, we can pick a weekend and then put it up to the group and do sign ups to see how many we will have. Then we can give GC a more accurate number. Just my two cents . . . carry on.

Nope, but we are really really close . . . will let you know soon soon!!!
Really awful news from GC. There is no such thing as a "slow weekend" for either of them. When I spoke in person to the manager at Aovndale's GC, it was stark raving busy. Despite having at least, 7 other eating venues in close proximity, it was as if this was the only one in town. They do not take reservations for any weekend at either GC. They can only accommodate us on weekday evenings. WHAA, now what do we do? That Arrowhead Community Room at Arrowhead Mall in Glendale would be my next inquiry, though I'm thinking a fee may be involved. Shall I proceed? I await your command.
Erica
I can check on the availability of the community center at Val Vista Lakes. This is in Gilbert, but right off the freeway (I60). It has nice facilities, and I sort of have an 'in', so might not be so expensive. But then goodies are the next topic.
Or we could just all show up at Golden Corral!!??
See, my biggest concern is that we don't have to provide snacks, because that takes major organization -- someone to collect funds before, someone to buy them, someone to create place to eat them. I think it would be easiest if we met at some sort of restaurant, cafeteria, etc. The mall could work because we could go to a food court and grab a bite. Arrowhead would also be cool because Recollections is right there, and after our stamping shoebox swaps, those who wanted to could go there. Check out how much it will cost. We will go from there.
Great minds think alike. I totally understand your concerns about food. The food court is perfect and it is right near the room. And Recollections is a neat side trip. There is also a Jo-Ann's in the opposite direction of Recollections. I don't know how many the room holds, but of course will find out. I'm also thinking of a Senior Center in Glendale, opposite a library.
It's off 59th Ave & Peoria. My prayer tonite...that Arrowhead won't be too expensive and will be spacious. I'll be on the horn first thing in AM.
Jonnicats should probably check out Val Vista as well, especially if there are food venues easily accessible. We really do need to avoid the cooking/cleaning-up scenario if at all possible. I went to a Stamp Camp and it really is tough on the worker bees if you get my drift.
Forget showing up at GC. It was amazingly loud and I got the impression that we would be glared at something awful if we hung around too long. It's worse than a Cracker Barrell when 5 tour buses let out for lunch all at once.
Hey, that gives me an idea. Think I'll call them too.
Arrowhead Community Center only seats 30. For 1-4 hours, its $75.00. For a full day, it's $125. They want us to sign a contract and have "insurance indemnification". They sent me a fax of the "Community Room Agreement." Yikes, this is all sounding quite legal, huh?
Before I look into this insurance thing (which I may be able to get through my agent as a one-shot deal), we need to decide if we want to break our 50ish group up into an AM & PM session and pay the $125. If we have 60 sign-up, we're looking at $2 to 2.50 per person. More $$$ if the insurance is 200 or so. ANY INSURANCE AGENTS IN OUR GROUP??? We will have to be very organized with lists of names for each session. Will the gals be willing to pay $5 each to do this? I've been informed that the same scenario exists for the Glendale Senior Center.
