Post PROGRESS REPORT

I have a love/hate relationship with deadlines. But here's where I'm at:

Name tag-just came up w/idea tonight; shouldn't be a problem
Swap Cards-in progress
ATC Swaps-95% completed
Shoebox Project-DONE!!!!!
Door Prize-have idea & supplies but not sure I like it; we'll see

How's that, Lisa? I will be there Saturday with my ink-stained fingers and ready to go.

Too bad you've never seen fireflies. I'm a native CA gal myself but saw them years ago on a visit to Georgia. They are totally cool little critters. I agree with Kathy, wish we could swap the black widows for bugs with lights on their butts

Ta ta for now, ladies!

I'd swap my black widows for just about anything but Florida cockroaches!

I'm done except for the instructions for the shoebox and my doorprize.... I figure if I bring extra cool stuff, people won't notice that all I stamped was the tag....

I'm almost done. I need to type up my swap recipe. I don't think we need directions for my shoebox swap, I'm a simple stamper, sorry. I may add a stamped topper to the bag my door prize is in if I have time.

Well, being the true last minute person that I am, I have finally finished. I just need to type up the recipes for my swaps and then I am truly finished. I am looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow.

It was great - Kathy, you did a fine, fine job!

Thank you Kathy for putting this together. I had a great time and could barely drag myself away. We arrived at the wedding just in time for dinner so we weren't late (teehee). I was looking over my swaps and projects this morning - everyone did a great job. Gretchen for a new stamper and first time swapper - you are a natural. You did a fantastic job on your swaps - one of the beauties of Splitcoast is all of the talent that we get to borrow from. So don't worry about using others as a source of inspiration.

Unfortunately I missed the winner of the name tag swap - was it Twyla???? She was my vote....

It was wonderful meeting all of you and now being able to put faces with names. I am looking forward to the next one....

Thanks again,

Karen

I agree! What a great time we all had yesterday. Kathy you did a fantastic job putting this together! And the swaps and projects were awesome! I still have a smile on my face from all the fun I had.

Karen, glad you made the wedding in time for dinner. Yes,Twila won the name tag contest. She was a shoe in with that great name tag she made.

I agree with Kathy O., time flew! We were getting kicked out of the pizza parlor because they were closing and we couldn't believe how late it was. I can't wait until our next get together. After all, we need to take that group photo. :-)

Default A Great Time on Saturday

I may have put it together, but it was the combined efforts of all you amazing stampers that really made this event wonderful and fun. I finally got a chance Sunday to take a long look at the shoebox samples and some of the swaps and every one was top notch! Ok, next time I'm going to put myself into the rotation and get to do some of your projects. There were so many wonderful ideas, color combos, techniques, and new stamp sets (that I didn't think I wanted, but now I do!).

Thanks for playing at the Monkey Business table to make card fronts (which I will mount onto folded card). The completed cards will be donated to Keiki Cards and will be used to bring a smile to some children who have life threatening illnesses. Those monkeys are always good for a laugh, and you all used them with lots of creativity.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped set up and especially clean up! Couldn't have done it without you, great team work.

I enjoyed meeting all of you and would love to get together in smaller groups any time you want to stamp together. Hey, any of you going to the Scrapbook Expo at the Alameda Fairgrounds on August 17th? I'll be there all day. I signed up for three classes and in between those will be browsing all the vendors for ideas, new papers, embellishments, etc.

I will contact an SCS moderator to try to set up a gallery for our event so the many photos taken can be grouped together. I saw a few uploaded already and can't wait to see more!

Sunday I took my dh and ds out to brunch to thank them for putting up with me the last few weeks. I've had my stamping stuff spread out all over the house, and was ignoring them a bit to focus on the event. They also helped me bring all the stuff over and then take it back home. After brunch, I came back home and took a long nap (I was happily worn out from all the fun). Then, I went to my local craft store, Richard's. No, didn't buy stamps, ink or paper - but got a paper mache box to turn into a jewelry box. I'm going to cover it with the foil strips that were used for the accordion album project.

Speaking of the accordion album, there were a few people I know that did not get to make it. Kathy O, Jennifer, Gretchen, I want to get together with you so you can make it. Was there anyone else? Please let me know, and if we can't get together, then I will send you one.

Sitting around the table at the pizza parlor was a blast. Some of you should think about becoming stand up comics. SammyStamper, your pet stories and the expressions on your face as you told them were hysterical, wish we had a video camera. Lisa is a hoot, just like she is here on SCS. Jill, Kathy, Vicki, Gretchen, Jennifer, Lisa, Samantha - I want to spend more time with all of you. Same goes for everyone that didn't stay for pizza.

The best part of the day was meeting so many wonderful people that I want to keep in touch with. Several people have already mentioned "when's the next get together" or "next year", even some of the people who couldn't make it to this one. Well, if there's enough interest, I'd love to do it again, but maybe in the Spring or Fall when there is no swimming championship! I'm so sorry about the parking. The community center didn't warn me ahead of time and only told me that morning that they would allow you all to park in the front parking lot, which was blocked off to save space for us and other non-swimming events and classes that day. I will definitely know to ask next time.

hasta la vista, til we meet again,

~ Kathy

Hi Rubber Rendezvous friends ! It was SO wonderful to meet all of you on Saturday, and I sure did enjoy getting in so much stamping time, making some beautiful shoebox cards and participating in my very first card swap!

Thank you, Kathy, SO much for putting this fun event together for all of us and for giving my friend Jennifer and I another reason to get together, which was also wonderful!

A very special thank you to the wonderful lady sitting next to me at Kathy's table (sorry I can't remember your name :oops who gave me the Advil for my raging headache so that I could get back to stamping painfree again .

Happy Stamping ladies!

Hi Everyone...I don't think I could add anything that hasn't already been said about the Rubber Rendezvous. It was great! Kathy/ikimom, you did an outstanding job organizing the event. And you were so nice to reward DH & DS. It's great to have family support for something you love to do.

Kathy, I was one of those who didn't get to your table, even though it was first on my dance card (great idea, BTW, to move folks around). Would love to get together if the others want to so I can do your project. I learned a lot and have committed to becoming a better stamper. The swaps and the projects were truly an inspiration.

I also enjoyed the pizza afterwards. Were you guys really there until almost 10pm???? Had to leave, cuz as you saw DGD was filthy from the rodeo and a 5-year old going into meltdown is not a pretty sight!

I vote with all the others that we should make this a yearly event. My apologies for not taking a group photo. Kathy had asked me to take pix and I know that Jennifer/citycooks took some. So maybe next year we can take an alumni photo. Kathy, when you find out where our photos should be uploaded, please let me know.

Thanks again, Ikimom. I love that name! You did a fantastic job as organizer/hostess. Ooops...almost forgot-a special thanks to your DH for bringing the black c/s that I forgot to cut for my shoebox swap. Talk to y'all soon...Vicki

I sent an e-mail to the webmaster on Monday asking for a gallery for our event under the "SCS Get Together" sub-gallery, but nothing yet. Can't wait to see more photos. I'll let you know when I get a response.

Yeeaaaah! We have our own gallery for the event now. Go to the main Gallery, then scroll down and click on Special Collections, then Stampin' Events, then Splitcoast Gatherings, and there we are "NoCal / Bay Area Rubber Rendezvous".

Load it up gals! I can't wait to see all the photos. I'll scan the cards I have from the project samples and put them in. There were so many wonderful nametags, it would be great if you could all add yours to the gallery.

BTW, did I happen to mention I'm a slow uploader, too? ;) I'll get busy. But gotta make a get well card tonight. A guy I know had a hanggliding accident on Mission Peak. Had to be helicoptered out to Stanford. He broke his back in 3 places! Maybe some of you saw it in the newspaper. I haven't talked to him (happened Sunday) but most likely a very long recovery. I'll check in later.

Ouch!!!! I hadn't heard, but DH said he did. Poor guy!!!

Let us know if we can send him a card! Wouldn't that be neat??

If you get an address, post it or PM me, at least.

Hi all,

I am getting a new computer this weekend and hope to be hooked up to DSL sometime next week, so I will upload a photo of my name tag as soon as possible! It's going to be great not having dial-up anymore! I could run a load of laundry and empty the trash in the amount of time it takes to do anything with dial-up!
Have a GREAT weekend!

Good for you Christianne, you will love the high speed connection especially for viewing the gallery. Just don't be like my husband who upgrades components every so often, has a honeymoon period with it, then all too soon, he starts saying, "this piece of s---!"

I'll check with a good friend of his that I know. If it's OK, I'm sure he'll appreciate any get well wishes. Interestingly, he is NOT a novice at hang gliding. Very safety concious, checks out all the latest improvements, etc. I do remember it was pretty windy in Fremont on Sunday and up on the Peak it would have been worse. I'll let you know, Kathy. Thanks for the thought-it's very sweet. Vicki

Default How late am I??

Finally got to sit down at the pc for a little while. I had an absolutely terrific time at my first card swap/shoebox project/ATC swap gathering. It was the first time I ever made an ATC or shoebox project.

Kathy, can't thank you enough for organizing and pulling this all together, besides being a gracious hostess. But I'll try - - - thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Please, please, please let's do this again. But do we have to wait until next year?
Thanks,
margiem1

I'd just like to throw out there, that if someone wants to have one of these BEFORE next summer, or closer to their home, all they have to do is find a place and go from there. The Get Together forum is full of starting ideas to get you going, and that's how this one happened. Nothing magic about it!

Remember, if you have an idea for a place, the next thing is to post and see if there's any interest!

Kathy O., you are right. But, I don't think anyone from our wonderful group is as crazy as I am to just go for it! haha. I was thinking next Springtime would be good, wouldn't conflict with so many Summer vacation plans. And, there shouldn't be a big swim meet that takes up all the parking spaces - that was not expected. I should send out a questionnaire to everyone who attended to get some feedback on what they liked or didn't like and what could be improved or added. But, I'm open to helping someone else set up a meeting at another location if they want to.

Well, I was going to wait a bit to throw this out there, but I'll mention it now. Karen Murphy was wondering if anyone would like to do a Christmas Cookie Recipe exchange - either in person or just in the mail. I used to host cookie parties with my friends every Christmas. We all made about 5 dozen and then swapped so that everyone went home with a variety of cookies. Gretchen came over to play at my house the other day and said she used to organize Gingerbread House decorating parties. She put the houses together, then put the decorations and icing out for everyone to embellish their own house. Food for thought.

Default Lost item and cookie exchange

Did anyone by any chance find the small stems stamp to the spring garden set while cleaning up? I finally put my sets away and that piece is missing. If someone picked it up for me, I will gladly send postage and an envelope for returning. Can't use the small flowers without it.

I used to organize cookie exchanges at work and love them. I would be very interested in participating if one is organized. I would prefer an in person one - they are so much more fun! The gingerbread houses sounds like fun also. I have never made one by myself. Have done it with my kids and grandkids. If we do that, I would be willing to meet with Gretchen to help bake or put together whatever is needed.
