May 17 in Central New York -- OVER but still chatting
CNY SplitCoastStampers Get Together
Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, New York
(easy access from Routes 81, 90 and 690/481)
Join us for a day of stamping fun!
The next one will be at the same place, same time on Saturday, November 1 so mark your calendar now.
Here's the post you've been waiting for with the news about the May 17th Central New York Get Together. I think we’re on #8 or #9 (it's #8 ) but it’s gotten to be difficult to track now that we have them going in eastern and western New York…not to mention Horseheads! I know everyone is looking forward to seeing old friends again soon and to meeting some new friends as well!
Cost – $15.00 per person ($16 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than noon on Friday, April 25. Mail your registration form and payment to me (Linda Tarolli, info is in registration doc). As usual, there are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Here’s what’s planned.
Swaps – You’ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and you’ll have plenty of notice since the deadline is nearly three weeks ahead of the event. Participating at least one swap (see below) is part of the “price” of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox, also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of the four swaps. Please do your best stamping, using quality stamps, inks and cardstock. Multiple layers and an embellishment are more-or-less expected in a group this talented!
Card Front Swap: Kari (norway76) will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post #8 -- Confirmed count is 21.
Recipe Swap – Nancy (njbaker) will provide more information about 6x6’s. Info is in Post #7 -- Confirmed count is 18
ATC Swap – Gayla (snowcountry311)will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #11 -- Confirmed count is 17
SU! Demo Quality* Swap – Check with Diane (diane617) on this. See Post #12 -- Confirmed count is 16.
*This means only current SU! products can be used but you needn’t be a demo. Diane isn’t!
Shoebox Project – Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Again, current Stampin’ Up! products are preferred but other quality products are definitely acceptable. We’ll break the shoebox projects into small groups (probably tables of 8-10) based on our final count. Tables will be set up to stamp the day away.
There will be nine at each table. You will need to bring FIVE extra completed shoebox projects for door prizes and hostess thank yous. This includes one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions. Participation in the shoebox is mandatory. A shoebox project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s). Stated differently: enough projects for your 8 tablemates to make (and 1 for yourself if you want to make it; I'd suggest not) PLUS 5 completed projects.
Lunch – We’re going to have sign ups for food and drinks again. Everyone has enjoyed sampling others’ treats at some of our other gatherings, so please indicate on the registration sheet what you will bring to share. (Also see note below about Make & Take for All.)
Make & Take for All – Earlier CNY gatherings featured several large group Make & Takes. If you would prefer to do this instead of providing a food item, please say so. Please pick one or the other (unless, of course, you want to do both!).
Goody Bags – for all! Everyone will leave with a bag full of fabulous goodies.
Gift Swap– If you would like to bring a wrapped gift (for those of you who are SU! demos, think “hostess gift”), we will draw for those so that everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be about $5, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! This swap will be done “Yankee Trader” style. Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank.
Other Stuff – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, especially your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without. You will likely need lots of adhesive. Make and wear a nametag with your name (and your SCS name) so that we know you on sight.
Items to bring: your favorite adhesive, bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive!
Don't forget your camera!
Complete the registration form and forward with your $15 payment ($16 via PayPal) by April 25. All funds collected will be spent on the event.

Directions to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is only about a mile from the exit and will be on your right. You will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the other three corners. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
FOOD INFO: Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - cookies - brownies - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more. There will be bottled water, coffee (including decaf), assorted sodas and, of course, candy for the tables.
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. There is some (limited) refrigeration, but if items to be served cold, especially the sodas, could arrive on ice that would be very helpful. There are outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available.
And, if you are bringing drinks, please bring them iced in a cooler.
There is a fridge and stove (with oven) available.
Swapping etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item (card fronts -- info in post 8, demo quality card fronts -- post #12, recipes -- post #7, and/or ATCs -- post #11), I "went shopping" here on SCS for some good general guidelines. Here is what I found and I sincerely hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all give and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments, or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. I often use an Avery label for my info, but a plain piece of paper works just as well.
3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality stamp, cardstock, inks, etc.
4) Please do use at least two layers and some sort of embellishment.
5) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
I knew I saved it for a reason! Here's the plan of the day:
You should receive your goodie bags when you come in. You'll also draw for your table (there are 4) at that time.
Plan on about 2 hours for the shoebox projects (9 people per table, but mostly completing 8 projects, skipping your own) and then a lunch and "garage sale" break. Remember that if you have anything you'd like to sell this is a great time to do that. In keeping with Splitcoast policies, please NO CURRENT Stampin' Up! products.
We will have three "demonstrations" after lunch -- Nestabilities with the Cuttlebug, Stencils and Embossing Paste, and Scor-Pal (um, scoring). Likely time frame will be about 15 minutes each and if everyone wants to see all of the demos, we will use ~45 minutes total. We will rotate groups not gather around one at a time. This won't be hands-on except for the lovely demonstrators: Nancy (njbaker), Diane (Diane617 aka TOD), and Michelle (flaxychick). You can watch one demo three times if you'd rather.
After that, we'll do the large group make & takes and save the door prizes and gift swap fun for last. One lucky winner will receive a personal hand massage on the spot! Won't that feel good after a day of stamping?!
I've roughed the day out so that we should end right about 5 p.m. Please don't plan to leave early or you will miss out on the fun!
Afterwards, those who are interested will take a drive out to Stampin' & Scrappin' Time in Bridgeport for some shopping and possibly stop somewhere quick for dinner.
PLEASE BRING 18 RECIPE PAGES. (The extra is for a door prize)
6x6 scrapbooked page that includes one of your favorite food recipes. Two layers paper minimum, please use at least one embellishment. Please make sure there is something stamped. Please do your best work. You can check out the gallery for ideas if you need some. There are many 6 x 6 recipe swaps.
You will know how many pages to make when final numbers are tallied after registration is closed.
PLEASE PM me if you'd like to be included in this swap. I'll add you to the list started below.
Vendor products: NVR (no vendor restrictions)
Please include the following information on the back of your swap:
