HB - Thank you for the kind words, and my family will take all the prayers we can. My Father was diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant brain tumor and is struggling. There is no cure, but he is going thru treatments to extend his life by a year maybe two. Sister in law just had open heart surgery(5 bypasses) and Daughter just broke her foot! We are in tough shape!! LOL! BUT THE GOOD NEWS HERE IS I haven't broken this year!!! LOL!!! it usually me!!

Sometimes I do not respond as quickly as I should-- sorry! Time is limited!

Default I need detailed instructions please

Could one of you super gals send me detailed instructions on what I need to do for the Shoebox swap?

I have never participated in a shoebox swap and I don't want to make any mistakes, especially since there will be so many experienced stampers there. Do I prepare like for a workshop - with each person's needed materials in ziplock bags? Do I include adhesive, or does each person bring their own? Do I include a stampin' scrub? How about scissors? Do all the materials have to be the same colors - or can I include several differenct color combos to make the card?

I need some answers so that I can order in my supplies.

Also, any ideas for the other items? I'm not sure what is needed.

I am soo looking forward to this gathering. I feel like I am having an audience with royalty (maybe I am - Queen Lana?). I am so afraid I will fall flat on my face and cause myself to be forceably ejected from the gathering and banned from any future gatherings. :-D (That coulnd't actually happen could it???) Do we have to curtsey? Are hugs allowed?

So, will somebody take pity on me and give me some instructions?

Sue

I just wanted to be sure....the shoebox swap is for full cards, not just card fronts, right? Just need to make sure I have enough cardstock of the same color.

And Sue, I'll try to answer your shoebox swap questions from what I've seen in swaps I've done, but Schrades or Kookie, please jump in and correct me or add any additional info for what you have in mind.

The swappers didn't all have individual baggies for each person, although some did, especially if there were lots of "parts." Most stations just had small stacks of each size/layer of cardstock and you just took one of each to make your card. Everyone brought their own adhesive of choice, except if the card required something special (e.g. glue dots), then that was provided. If your stamps need to be cleaned in between colors or stampers, then there was a scrub - otherwise everyone just used the stamps in the same ink pads all day and got cleaned at the end. I think everyone brought their own scissors. As far as color combos, I think most people had all the same color for everyone.

I hope that helps ease your mind. Remember this is supposed to be fun, not stress-inducing!!

I am sooooooooo sorry all, but my sister and brother in law are coming that weekend and they are staying with us... we are celebrating my nephews (and godson) 1st birthday!!! I really want to send some cards to Kathie though for the swap, can I convince you all to still add me to the swap and I will send them over that way?? I was going to do the shoebox one but that will be to much to send the stamps and everything... Looks like I might get 2 demonstrations for next month too, along with my Home and Garden Party too

Default Enquiring Minds Want To Know

Kathy -

do you have any final numbers yet? I want to get started on the shoebox swap and make sure I have enough supplies.

Also maybe a quick recap of any other info we need would help too.

TIA,

Sue

Smile Can one of last year's attendees help me out?

I have completely forgotten if I signed up the anything but a card and the lottery item - what should I do?

I think I better get myself a big fat notebook and starting writing notes to myself. My memory is starting to fail big time.

By the numbers, there are 38 people (total shoebox swaps) attending, right? It says that 20 from last year and does that mean 18 newbies? I'm confused by the numbers. Because I know that not everyone is doing everything.

Can one of last year's attendees help me out here?

What is considered a lottery item? Does it have to be stamped? Can it be non-fattening?

Would special gift packaging count as an "anything but a card"?

Sue

I'm a little disappointed that we won't be making all the shoebox swaps, as that's a big draw for me to come to the gathering (of course, other than meeting all my cyber-friends and stamping royalty!). Getting to actually *make* someone else's idea is so much more fun that just *taking* one out of a box.

Is the length of the event planned to be shorter than last year? Didn't we do about 35 shoeboxes last year, and this year would be 38? Last year's gathering was so much fun with all the shoeboxes, and we all socialized throughout! Have you gotten a lot of feedback about the number of cards and that's why you changed the plan?

My intent in asking these questions is not to stir up hard feelings. I am totally, completely, grateful to you, Schrades, and anyone else involved, for planning this event. It will still be tons of fun with your modifications, and I don't regret signing up, but I just wondered the reason for the change.

Wink dividing shoebox swap

Your questions are not stirring anything. The reason for the change is cuz last year we had several people say they did not have enough time to finish all the cards or they felt rushed to get them done thus not doing as good a job as they wanted.
We went to the Milwaukee gathering early this year hosted by Stephanie(waving) and they split the shoebox swap so you only had to make half the cards and the other half were premade. We had to make 25 cards and there were a couple that felt rushed still but it worked AWESOME.
Everyone works at different speeds and we don't want anyone to miss out on cards because they ran out of time. Even though you will only be making half the cards, you are till going to have the full group wrestling(not literally! ;) ) to get to an open station.
This is something we are trying, and we will be asking for your feedback at the gathering.
If you have any more questions, please ask.

Can't wait to see everyone again and for the first time!

One thing I would HIGHLY recommend since I've participated in a few of these shoebox swaps is to take the little extra time and put all the materials to make the card in a plastic bag or cello bag. Why? Because people are less likely to take an additional piece of cardstock out of another package if they make a mistake on theirs. Also, all the materials are right there for the person. Otherwise, if you just cut the amount needed and someone makes a mistake and takes another piece the last person making the card may not have enough materials to make the card.

I am soooooo looking forward to the gathering! And even though you won't be making all the cards, you'll be able to take your time and enjoy making them.

It sounds like we'll be making 20 cards, that's plenty for me to make in a day along with lunch, door prizes, and chatting the time away. Some people sit down, rush through making the card, get up and rush to make the next one like it's a race, while others like to take their time. I'm just looking forward to getting together with the gals from SCS and stamping the day away!

See you all soon!

Good Point Donna.
I too have a few things I want to add one being a change, I don't have everyones private e-mails so I am posting this here, please pass it on to those that may not come here everyday to check this post.

Shoebox swap: There are 38 participating. You need to cut enough materials for 38 cards but bring 20of the cards assembled. (This # was previously 1 You will be making 19 cards at the gathering. Please put your 20 assembled cards in a Ziploc bag with your name and shoebox swap written on the bag. You will also want to bring something to put your cards in as you go station to station.
There will be a place to put these cards at the gathering.

"Anything but a card" swap: If you are participating in the "anything but a card" swap, make sure you bring something big enough to hold the items you get in return. It can be a box or big gift type bag of sorts.
There will be a place to put these at the gathering.

"Additional card swap": Please bring these in a Ziploc bag with your name and Additional card swap written on the bag.
There will be a place to put these at the gathering.

Also, It may help to have at least your name and possibly a supply list, if you want, on the back of ALL the swap items you bring. (Shoebox swap, anything but a card swap, additional card swap, and lottery item) In the past we have tried to get this information while trying to do the swaps and it just gets to confusing. **This is not required** but if you would like to do this, you can do so by using a stamp that has your name on it or by using printable labels and sticking them on prior to coming.

ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT!!!!

I'd like to make a suggestion for the shoebox swap. When I attended the Milwaukee gathering we had little books to write the recipes in and I agree with Kookie, this gets very confusing and time consuming trying to guess sets and colors on each card.

I saw that some people made address labels with the recipe's on them and put them off to the side, so that if you wanted the "recipe" you could just take a sticker and put it in the book. I realize we won't have a book this time, but it doesn't mean that you couldn't use a couple of sheets of paper to do the same concept.

My feeling is that if you put them on the card themselves, the sticker may be hard to get off and that some of us are not demo's and will be actually using the cards instead of putting them up for display.

Does that make any sense? I have a feeling I'm not explaining it quite right...

Thanks for listening...

Red face OOPS!!

Oops! Drat! Duhhh! I mistakenly ordered the wrong color of cardstock for my shoebox swaps and now it's too late to order the right stuff!

Would anyone that is coming on Saturday be willing to trade me 8 sheets of your Elegant Eggplant cardstock? I have any other color to trade, and I'd be soooo appreciative if I didn't have to come up with a new idea. PM me or post here if you can help me out.

Thanks!

Default North woods the sequel

I have been looking for a replacement for my spot but have not found one.
I will not be able to come as I am going to be working at a FREE CLINIC for the poor.
I will miss you all and next year hopefully I will be able to come.
Tammie

What a Great Day!!! The Shoeboxes were fun and I don't think I made one that I didn't like - The Individual Swaps were great - The Anything But a Card Swaps were great - The Lottery Items were awesome - A Great Day all around... Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!

Thank You Kathie and Katrina for all your hard work putting it together!!! We look forward to next year!

Joanie and I are thinking of hosting a smaller version in Hatley - a Pot Luck and Shoebox Swap Stamping Day some time in February. It's so much fun just to get together with people and stamp all day, enjoy each others company and good food!

See you all next year!

Happy Stamping,
Jodi

I agree! A fantastic day it was!!

We also tossed around an idea of doing a Shoebox Swap in Madison - in February! How funny is that.

Thanks for all the hard work that went into planning this great event! See y'all next year!
