Alexander Girard was one of the biggest names in mid-century textile design. Girard managed to inject an uninhibited use of color and a clever playfulness into the industry. Girard's risky, sometimes iconoclastic fabrics were inspired not by a vision of the future but by a love of traditional folk art. Avid collectors, he and his wife, Susan, surrounded themselves with pieces from over 100 countries. These colorful, whimsical objects inspired him and provided a framework for his designs.
mXimo is the official agent to the Estate of Alexander Girard and is responsible for re-introducing Girard designs to the contemporary marketplace. In 2000, mXimo partnered with the Girard family to bring his extensive body of work back to life by joining with select companies internationally such as Maharam, Herman Miller, Kate Spade, Chronicle Books, and Vitra on design driven products and educational programs.
I have uploaded three Girard inspired creations, but feel free to use any of his designs or his overall style for your inspiration.
Use the keyword: IC159 (no spaces or extra characters) when you upload your card, and make sure you put commas between your key words.
How to Play ~ View the attached images. You may be inspired to recreate the pieces ~ but that isn't necessary ... get your inspiration from the colors, layout, style or 'theme'. Just enjoy wherever your inspired creative journey takes you. Make the inspiration piece your own. Don't worry ~ no card is 'wrong' and there is no time limit for uploading your card for the challenge. There are no rules, so let your creative juices run wild ~ be *inspired* and go get stamping!
Don't forget about No Upload Sunday - Let's give the gallery moderators a day off and not upload on Sunday (unless, of course, you are a Fan Club member - yet another reason to spend a little money on your favorite site). Also, remember to link to your SCS gallery on this thread. Thank you for joining me on this inspiration journey.
I love all Black and White cards, here is one I did last year! It reminds me of the center dress in the inspiration pictures. I'll have to do another one later today!

It looks better IRL cuz the dull colors are never as effective photographed and the kraft paper gave that twist to it but I like it.....anyway..............
Honestly when I looked at todays inspiration challenge I was like WHOA, weird stuff. But that's the best thing about Stephanie's challenges is they really ARE a challenge!! Then I laid awake a lot last night and kept thinking about that awesome pillow and in the morning when I should be CLEANING my HOUSE cuz I have major COMPANY coming, I decided I had to rise to the challenge - and everytime I do I end up happy with the results - Stephanies challenges are the BEST!! Hope you like it!! I need to take a look at what everyone else is coming up with.....fun stuff!!
So happy to be up and more about! I do have to prepare lunch so while my eggs are boiling let me thank once again our champion challenge hostess Stephanie for this fine inspiration!
A MXimo Mikado Birthday - I picked this out earlier this morning, but I had baking and sweet-making to do, and then DH had taken over my desk and I wasn't allowed up here - so I've just got round to it now. Fun challenge, thank you Stef.
I am sitting in my stamp room watching it snow. This card took way to long to make as I kept staring outside. So far we have about 2 inches, they are saying up to 10 by tomorrow....and we live in OREGON!!! at just 100 ft above sea level. There is snow on the beaches...instead of sand castles, they are building snowmen!!!
