Thankyou so much for these recipes! I have shared them with other scrap friends!
My question is: I have tried the Fiskars recipe for Collection II and also the Brass Template recipe and I have used plumbers gasket. It does not even go in the cuttlebug. I can't force it either. So I tried without if and it did nothing for an emboss imprint. I tried cardboard shims and nothing. What else can I do? TIA!
PS: I really don't want to break my new cuttlebug!
Hi Deb! You definitely need the plumbers gasket or other 'soft' material for brass templates. The gasket presses into the openings in the brass templates and pushes the paper, making the embossed impression. If the stack is too thick then try removing one of the hard layers and replacing with cardboard shims which would make the stack thinner. So, remove the A (and biggest) plate, replace with another B plate, and add a couple of cardboard shims until you get the right thickness.
I primarily use my CB to emboss and have used the following sandwich for quite a few months: Plate A, Plate B, Brass Stencil, Cardstock, HSS Spacer, HSS Spacer, Plate B. The results have been OK, but I have wished for a deeper impression. Using one spacer and Plate C is too thick. Tonight I tried something that really did the trick for me - so simple it's ridiculous I didn't think of it long ago. Back to my original receipe but with one sheet of cardstock (scratch) between the second Spacer and Plate B. That gives just a tiny bit more thickness and thereby compresses the sandwich a little more and I get a deeper impression. It's really just about perfect now.
HI can you use Bosskuts in the cuttlebug. An Aussie website has them on sale and I would love to get some, but if they won't work, then it would be a waste..
TIA
Sharon
Hi, I was wondering if you could PM with the addy for the website you mentioned. I know your post was a couple of weeks ago and they may not still be on sale, but I would still be interested. Thanks.

Does this help?
You can also try an old mouse pad, one you don't mind cutting down to fit the cuttlebug. That is what I use to emboss with my Sizzix.
anyone who does want a cuddlebug should go to creativexpress ....they have them for $35.00 I wouldn't wait if you want one or you know someone that has wanted one.
This finally worked for me!!
This is for a brass template
A plate,B plate ,mouse pad, c/s,brass stencil ,B plate and for the final piece the pkg(paper) from the cuttlebug folder was just enough to emboss ( I did go thru it 3 times) and it looks fantastic!!!!!!!! I love my bug and I love the fact you can come here and find anything that you need!!!!
I just bought my cuttlebug today! Merry Christmas to me!! I bought some Sizzix Texture Plates Kit #3 but I can't get it to go through the machine. I looked on the WONDERFUL list that someone took a great deal of time compiling, but I can't see how to do these big sheets. Can someone help?

Try*carefully* with the stack listed for the Fiskars texture plates. I think they are very similar! Report back and let us know how they worked out, pls.
I don't have any rubber plates. I think I read somewhere it comes with the starter kit?
Sorry, Karen. I'm not sure about that. I actually bought a Fiskars starter set that included a thin rubber mat the size of the plates. Others have had success with "plumbers gasket" which can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes.
Thanks for your help. I think I may just return them to Joann's and get the cuttlebug kind. It's a little easier to use the ones that work with the machine. Seeing I've only owned it for less than 24 hours, I may get a little more ambitious later on.

So yesterday was the 1st time I tried using the little tan pad that came with my Nesties to do the embossing. I'm not happy with the result - it left a secondary inner/outer line where the Nestie edge was.
Has anyone tried using the quickutz cookie cutter dies in their cuttlebug? Do you need to purchase the sticky mat by quickutz in order to use these?? Just curious.
If you want to emboss a longer piece of paper than fits in the folder how do you do that. I ran it through once and then lined it up and tried again but the edge was then de-imbossed leaving a blank line in the middle of the piece. Is it possible to do a longer piece of paper?

Hi, i've been using my cookie cutter dies with just the C plate and the B plate, without the sticky mat. I didn't like the stickyness getting on my cardstock. Using it without the sticky mat just makes it a little harder to position exactly, but with a little carefulness it works just fine without the sticky mat. Using the cuttlebug plates alone also means i can cut more at a time as the cuttlebug plates are so much bigger than the sticky mat.

not sure if you've gotten the cookie cutter dies yet, but if you haven't check out the nestabilities that spell binder has. I got the cookie cutter dies then found out about them and wish i had gotten the nesties instead.
OMG, thanx for this thread...I just tried to emboss with a stencil in my bug and it worked beautifully...I am soooooooooooo excited........I forgot all about my stencils....soo happy that this works...
I have been trying to get showered and some work done at home and this puter keeps pulling me right here to this site.....gotta love it.....
Sizzix.com sells clear plastic folders that you can put a brass stencil into, then run through the Cuttlebug just like a regular CB embossing folder. I've used these and they work great!

I AM ONE HAPPY CAMPER
and did you happen to post that little treasure in your gallery? i didn't see it
Could some one please advise what the Cuttlebug sandwich recipe is when you use a Zip-E-Mate die in the Cuttlebug?
Thank you

Has anyone had success with the Sizzix Happy Birthday die cut? I've tried all types of combinations and it's been a bit of a disappointment. As long as I use just thin paper, it works fairly well. I want to use card stock and when I do it only seems to emboss rather than cut it thru. Any help would be appreciated! I wasn't able to find plumber's gasket at my Home Depot.. I must be looking for the wrong thing!
Thanks in advance!
Just wanted to add... I couldn't use the combination stack of plate A-plate B- die cut- paper-plate C with the Sizzix die cuts (Happy Birthday). It bowed out so badly, I was afraid it would either crack my plates or break my machine!

I'll try to help, but need to clarify some things. Are you using the steel die? Thick with the red plastic base?? Sizzix originals 3/4" thick? If so, I have some and used one last night for this bumble bee. Used "b plate, bumble die, bazzil cardstock, b plate combo and it worked beautifully on my cuttlebug. Card here. OR are you using the littler red Sizzlits dies?? I use those all the time too and can tell you how I use it for these. Let me know.
Thanks Elizabeth for answering my post. I guess I am using the little red Sizzlits die. It worked ok with the birthday cake and the present. It's just the words Happy Birthday that won't come out very well. I've decided to take it back where I bought it and trade it for just some embossers and a couple of other things. When I used just regular colored paper (not card stock) it seemed to work a bit better. Still you have to peel it off carefully or you tear it. It just seems to take so much effort for the reward.

1) I just checked the stack list and didnt see the "recipe" for using Sizzix Texturz plates. I'm sure they will work, just need the stack list.
2) I notice that the starter set of the texturz has a silicone rubber sheet- I can substitute plumbers gasket for that. But what about a substitute for the impressions pad?
Here's the product-http://www.sizzix.com/shop.cfm?function=detail&ProductItemNumber=654376
