Where do you buy your foam board? I've seen some sheets at Michael's but it's a long drive to that store for me. Can you get it at Home Depot or Lowe's?
I buy my foam board at my local dollar store. I'm not sure where you are or if your dollar stores carry it, but it's worth a look.
You can probably buy it at Home Depot or Lowes or any office supply store, but it'll be a lot more expensive. I'd suggest waiting for Michaels to put there's on sale and make a special trip? I don't know what the pricing is like where you're at, but here, Michael's regular prices for foam board is $4-$5 a sheet but it goes on sale for $1.50 - $1.99. It's Elmers brand board, which is a better grade than what I generally get from the dollar stores which explains the price disparity. I pay $1.25/sheet.
Hopefully this helps.

I've taken all the pictures for a tutorial and will get to blog it later today. I have to go to Michaels and get one of them pretty pink tape guns first.
If anyone is seriously wanting to make one of these your supply list is as follows:
5 sheets of foam board - average size is 20 x 30
Glue gun
45 sheets of CS
Gobs of DP and embellishments
Acetate (OPTIONAL: if you want window boxes)
Circle Punch 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 or both for layering
Utility knives

Woman - you are amazing with the foam board ... I checked out your blog and was blown away with your projects ... I'm especially interested in your punch storage system ... I'm going to go home now and see if I can figure out how to make one for all of mine. Thanks for taking the time to figure these out and then share them. Very much appreicated!
would the foam board be sturdy enough to hold the new style Stampin Up punches ?
Thank you
Jean
The paper rack below is made of foam board. The cat beside it is 30+ lbs. He sits on the paper rack and it has not collapsed yet. So . . . I'd say ya, it's sturdy enough to hold punches. LOL

I think I need to know how to make that paper rack. Is it on your blog, as I couldn't find it.
thanks
You won't find the paper rack on my blog. Man o man, I don't think I can do a tutorial on that. It was seriously involved. There was someone here, about a year, year and a half ago, made a paper rack and she did it so much better than I did. She blogged it and linked back to my gallery but I don't recall who it was at the moment. I'll have a look around and see if I can find it. She had some really good pictures too. Good enough that if you were inclined to invest the time, you could figure it out on your own.

Thanks for the supply list - looking forward to your tutorial. I *think* my dollar store has form board. And hey- that is some serious tools you recently purchased. I love a woman who is not skeered to buy tools! LOL I just wish they had more tools in the color pink. I have a yellow cordless DeWalt drill - I wish it was pink. LOL
Carry on, girlfriend!
LOL Moonpie! You make me raff! I'd like if they came in purple? Purple is pretty LOL
OK . . . I have to go type up that tutorial. I started it last night and about 10 minutes in we lost power. We had a major wind storm blow through here. All my clocks are flashing. Drives my husband nuts LOL

Ahhh my husband help desk guy just told me that the web host provider for my blog is doing updates of some kind. Would have been nice if they told me! It's been down all day. My apologies. All I can say is just check once in a while to see if it's back up. The tutorial is awesome LOL

Purple is AWESOME! I have a purple mini fridge in my craft area!
I'm thinking of trying to convert a cabinet with doors to paper storage with foam board. I need to find just the right cabinet.

You make it look easy. I read each step and it all makes sense to me. LOL I'm thinking it would be cool to finally do that space behind my door that I've been wanting to do for so long. I think I could adapt the size to just about any space - I'm excited! Has anyone told you? --- You ROCK!

FOAM BOARD CABINET
Thanks Heather for the excellent tutorial. Your time and effort is appreciated! I didn't realize til the tutorial that the drawers were paper ... how cool. Since I'm not so good on consistent cutting to fit (such as the foam board), I think I will check with my friend to see if she can tackle that part, and I will make the drawers. We usually make a holiday project together. Though this is different than our usual type of project, I think it would be fun! I'll be sure to add a link here or on your blog when it's made. BTW, do you have anything for storing Ranger di/SU ink pads? Or 8.5x11 or 12x12 paper storage? Heehee!
She used my ink holder as inspiration, but she improved a lot on my design. She even gives you enough information to figure it out on your own if you REALLY wanted one.
As for the paper rack . . . . UNK . . . I don't want to make another one of those! LOL You're on your own for that one. Well . . . send money forever and I'll think about it LOL

What a great link. Thanks so much for sharing. I was hoping to unmount my stamp sets and this told me how to do it and get them to stick on the CD holders. I even have a lady who wants my wood blocks. Way cool! Maybe I can get my daughters over and we can have an unmounting party. Sounds good to me. I do like the idea of leaving the spongy foam on the stamps.
I also love the link's tut on the storage ideas as well.

Just curious if anyone has attempted the project yet? Is the tutorial complete enough? Are the instructions clear enough? This enquiring mind wants to know.

I have the foam board, but I haven't started on any projects with it. DH had made paper storage for me, but we used the wire grid storage to make the shelves and I want to cut Foam board to make new shelves.
After that I want to make some stair step type shelves for desktop storage.

I have the board but haven't tried it yet. The directions seem clear enough to me. I will be printing them out so I can refer to them as I feel the need.

I made a couple -- not exactly like yours, I made them more to fit my own needs but you instructions are INVALUABLE to me ---- without your pics and notes I would have made WAY more mistakes!
I kept meaning to get back on here and thank you for posting that, I was REALLY frustrated with my storage options and could not find anything that would work for me that was affordable and then I saw your cabnet ..... saved me TONS of money and LOTS of aggrivation!
I did suffer one VERY bad hot glue gun burn though --- but I am the MOST clumsy person on the planet!

So where are pics of what you created? I'd love to see what you came up with.

Depending on what you are looking for in the way of organization / storage for your desk top ... look to your local thrift stores. Many sell the the top piece of computer desks .. they are generally set up to hold books, papers, CD'/DVD's - etc. and since they are generally only about 12-inches deep they would not consume your desk top. I have yet to buy one myself because my workbench "floats" in the middle of my work room because I am very uncomfortable with my back to people coming in or the window.

I got my foamboard - snagged several sheets from my dollar store. Score! I haven't started any project yet. I'm currently working on a swap commitment. I'll keep ya posted and hope to show photos (some day) - good or bad. LOL
Like others, I haven't started my project yet though I have the boards. I am working on a couple of swaps and I am working on a quilt & bumper pads for my dgd2. They were started before she was born and then put to the side - she is now 4 1/2 months old and ready to go to her big bed instead of the bedside bed so I've got to get cracking on them. Then dd1 (dgd's mom) decided she needed to dig up some plants in her yard and bring them to my house tomorrow or Saturday so I'll have to get them in the ground as well. So it may be a while longer before I get to start them.
I do have a question - I know the directions said to use a hobby knife but could you use a utility knife (the kind with all the blades scored on it)? It would certainly make it much less expensive to make several of something. Just a though ... anyone?

Hobby knife / utility knife . . . same thing I think. A hobby knife, I believe has a triangular pointy blade. Personally, I don't like them because they wobble too much but they're good for intricate cuts. I prefer a regular utility knife for better control and precision. It's really a personal preference.
