Forget that. I'll rig something else for that price. Thanks for answering
Everyone is talking about the clips... .I actually found this last night. I'm not sure if it's been posted before, but I thought it was really interesting. It's her first video so she doesn't have the camera angled right part of the time, but you will get the jest of it. I'm gonna have to try it.
That certainly is a lot less expensive. I like the idea and have a place I can use it. I did hang my ribbon on a curtain rod ( spring loaded ) in a window in my basement but for embellishments even putting them in baskets doesn't allow me to see what I have. This will. I use the badge clips from Staples on rings to hang the ribbon. They would work for embellisment bags also.
I have been using curtain rods and curtain clips for several years, they work great and are super cheap. You can make your own really easily! Anywhere that you can add a curtain rod or a tension rod, and wallah, for well under $20 and you can add clips as needed
Someone on another post had mentioned the clips they sell at JoAnns. They are in the bead section and the brand name is Darcy or whatever that brand is that they sell. Anyway, they are only like $4 and are great for your version of a Clip It Up. Might want to give it a try since JoAnns always has some kind of sell on the beading stuff.
I heard that things will fade in the window so as soon as I can get them moved to another place I will. I use the shower curtain rings also and clip the ribbon or embellisment to it. You can get a lot on that way.
I thought it was such a good idea that I went thrifting this weekend to find an old lampshade and made my own. The only think I did differently was to use tiny binder clips instead of paperclips. I took one side of the binder clip off, put it over the lampshade, and put it back on the binder clip. That way, I can clip up items that don't have a package or use a little baggie to bag up things like chipboard alphabet pieces. It's like having my own little circular rack that I can "shop" from.
Love this idea. I wonder if you could get a shade that would screw onto one of those old floor lights I see at auction a lot. Then you would have a floor model and the longer pieces would work well.
And I was at Ikea this weekend and saw small clips (my guess is they are curtain clips)...you never know with Ikea products what their really meant for but sure can use them a whole lot of different ways. Anyway, 24 pack of small clips for $4.99. I know they would work excellent for this project.
The clips from ikea are similar to the curtain clips that I use, and if you don't have an ikea near you, anywhere that sells decorative curtain rods sells these. I have founds them at target cheapest (about the same price as ikea I think). the ones from target have slightly larger rings so they can fit over a curtain rod, not a curtain wire, but same concept. I love using this type of clip for so many things! I love the wire from ikea!

Ohmigosh! That is a GREAT idea! Guess what I'll be thriting for this weekend?
I LOVE the lampshade idea! I also got the Dignitet curtain rod from IKEA to hang with the little clips it comes with....a perfect substitute for the clip it up! I can't post pics because it's still in the package! LMAO
I'm actually going to see if I can find a tall standing lamp - then I can use both the top and bottom of the shade ( I hope). It will depend upon the heaviness of my goods and how strong the shade frame is - but at least I wouldn't have to sit it on a table.

Hello Ladies -- Thought I'd give a little update on my lampshade clip it up. After seeing this idea from Lazorkay, I was on the hunt. I found an old brass lamp with a very sturdy shade and harp (the part that goes around the lightbulb to hold the shade) this weekend. I put the lampshade right back on the lamp after removing the fabric covering the frame so I have two layers of space to clip things. The shade is about 14 inches tall so there is plenty of space for 12 inch items to hang and the lamp shade sits about 14 inches high, so the lower level has plenty of clearance as well. The lamp itself isn't too big around so everything hangs down straight. I'm so excited with my $10 solution ($5 for the original shade that I can now gift to a scrappy friend (she'll have to find her own lamp ) and $5 for the 2nd lamp complete with a shade. Just a word of advice . . . pick a shade with a very sturdy frame and a lamp with a very sturdy harp. It's surprising how heavy everything was when it was all hung up. And a skinny lamp -- something "chubby" like a ginger jar lamp would keep your stuff from hanging straight down. I'll try to post a couple of pics but it is too murky here in NH today to get good ones.
I got one this weekend too but it is wrought iron, antique floor lamp and has two arms. Had to buy harps but the lamp was 5.00. Now I have to find shades to tear up. On with the search!
I was thinking when i watched the video on reusing the lampshade, it would be nice to put it on a lazy susan so it spins. I like that about the clip it up. Wish I had seen these ideas before i shelled out the $ for the clip it up, but I do love it.
Maybe you could put the whole lamp on a lazy Susan. I need to get over to Ikea and look for those clips. If I ever get this all organized I won't know what to do.
I think I told you all I found a wrought iron lamp with two arms so I think it will stay pretty balanced. I'm on a lampshade hunt now. The lamp is an antique and I only paid 5.00 for it at auction. People thought I was nuts when I told them what I was going to do with it. Lowes helped with the harps which were only 3.98 and pretty sturdy.
The JoAnn's clips are on sale for 2.99 a package by the way. And thanks for the url. I like the Ikea curtain rod idea also. I think I'll get one of those also.
I'm probably closer than you think to southeastern Pa. I live in Woodstock, Va which isn't too far. But thanks anyway. I think I have one in the basement ( don't have an attic ) and its fun looking for them.
