One little concern. I assume you would have to open them to put the extra glitter back in. My salt shaker gets a lot salt in the threads. When I open it to refill, I have to do it over the sink because salt falls out every where. You might want to try one first, before investing in a bunch of them.
Refill is easy. ALl you have to do is put a piece of tape over the holes on the top before you turn them over to refill.
Oh so these are like piggy banks--an access flap on bottom. I was thinking you'd have to unscrew the top to refill or return the extra glitter to the shaker. I really like my stainless steel shakers except that the salt fills the threads while using so the refill process is messy. Couldn't image dealing with the same problem using glitter.

The picture shows standard size salt shakers and individual shakers for when you have a gathering of people. Our BIG LOTS stores have them in a pack right now. I'm sorry I don't remember how many for how much because I saw them several weeks ago and was going to buy them, but needed to spend my money for "practical" things...like bathroom tissue!
I'm thinking there were 8 for under $10. Anyway...I bought my large ones at Goodwill and the Salvation Army for 50 cents to $1 each. The caps on ALL of these screw off, they ARE NOT the type with the little plastic stopper in the bottom. I know from experience that those little stoppers can stretch out over a period of time from removing and replacing and then they won't stay in the shaker. So go with the screw tops, definitely.
I love the look of this - do you think the glass salt & pepper shakers will work for glitter and embossing powder?
Jan, I went to BIG LOTS today. That's a discount chain in Ohio. I'm attaching pictures of the little shakers I bought and what they look like filled. I also found three other shakers at the Goodwill store today. They look so pretty. Can't wait to use them this way. Sure hope you have a resource in Canada. Do they have Goodwill type stores there?

Look at thrift stores as well. I plan to story mine this way when I no longer have little fingers in the house,LOL. I can just imagine the mess if she were to get a hold of glitter.
I think it would work great for glitter, but I don't think I personally would try it with embossing powders. Most of the ones I own are metallic and I read somewhere here on SCS (forever ago) that someone had gold EP oxidize from exposing it to the air.
Another place to purchase low COST SALT & PEPPER SHAKER Sets is a restaurant SUPPLY store, such as Gordon Food Supply, or Sysco. In the town I live in Michigan, We have a GFS ( Gordon FOOD SERVICE ) restaurant supply store. I know for certain that this store carries Salt & Pepper Shakers for sale.
I also have purchased restaurant quality silverware for unbeleivably low prices when my children were younger and our tableware would diisaprear from time to time ( kids don't think about silverware when throwing their paper plates in the garbage sometimes! ....( it happens ! )
I also purchased WHITE BUTCHER's PAPER there for gift wrapping ! I purchased a roll of the WHITE BUTCHER's PAPER, stamped on it, and wrap my gifts ! this is a very nice way to personally wrap a gift for someone.....The first year I did this was for my BFF. Because she loves Christmas Trees, I took the White Butcher paper, and stamper the Tallest Tree from the Lovely as a Tree set.....all over the paper. I then took 5-6 different color SU! Write Markers, and drew " Christmas Balls " ( a small colored circle ) on the branches of the stamped "tree"....what a gorgeous gift wrap that was ! In fact, my friend saved the wrap...she still has it .
Again, just go to any restaurant supply store to look for Salt & Pepper Shakers...This is an AWESOME idea......I also have purchased Larger "Diamond Dust" from a local BIG BOX STORE.....and this would also be a great way to store it ( in the shakers ! )
Thanks for the great idea .....I am off to Gordon Food Service later today !!!
Love this idea- brilliantly simple! I agree about the embossing powder tho- I think that could get problematic- especially if you have an area of high humidity, or any damp/condensation problems.

Actually my treks to the Goodwill store have turned into a "treasure hunter's dream time" as I look for different shaped salt shakers. I like the variety of the shapes. But, when I saw the little ones at Big Lots I had to get them because I had a box of Art Institute Glitter that I've had for over 15 years and thought I should get it out and use it. This way I see it and remember that it's there. [It wasn't that I was stamping all that time and forgot...I had stuff in storage].
While these all look so pretty, I would have a hard time getting the unused powder/glitter back into the jar, some of them have very small openings. Than being the glutz that I'm, I'd probably spill alot just by knocking them over or just reaching for them. They are very pretty all lined up with each other.
Thank you for all your advice and for your pics RavioliGirl - they look amazing. I have checked out the discount stores in my area and haven't found any yet.
I'm going to try Goodwill next - although we do have a restaurant supply store so I may try that first.

Your welcome. I didn't mean to monopolize the thread. It's just that I happened to read about the same storage idea this summer and had been working on collecting my salt shakers. I get a bit excited about things. I read about this idea in a book by Lisa Pace called "Delight in the Details." A really amazing lady and a really cool book. Keep looking!
HEY, is there a Mail Strike going on in Canada right now???
