For me anyway...this is just PERFECT! I had a dining set in the middle of my scrapping space, and it was nice if I had company to scrap with, but really it was unusable space because the chair backs were in the way and it provided ZERO storage.
So...I shopped and shopped and decided on this island (base cabinet) from Ikea...and then ordered the countertop that matched my workspace along the wall in an island style with an overhang off the back. I love it! The storage underneath fits all those larger akward items like trimmers, die-cut machines, scorpal, etc. Each item is instantly available, no doors to open, etc, but it can be put away *mostly* out of sight for when we use the space for football food. (My space is one end of the Fam Room) I still have stools for two friends to scrap with me but the higher surface is SO MUCH easier to use than the old table.
It is white on the back, but I am going to put in the punched tin ceiling tiles to antique it up a little...and make it go better with the rest of the basement.
Anyway...I had to share my little table/island swap...I am so happy with it and DH just does not get that I need enthusiastic compliments. LOL
Thanks for indulging me!!

REALLY cool work space!! I have bad knees, so the higher table wouldn't work for me...but for those that can...yours look like the BEST!!! I love the underneath storage! So convenient! GREAT FIND!! Congrats!
Ooooh, I've never seen that before. I LOVE it!! What a great idea and use of extra storage space! Is that a mini schnauzer I see hiding in the cubby hole under the counter?

Thanks! And it is a Mini Schnauzer.... That's Jack, and he has to sleep by my feet while I work, so I had to get a little bed for him under there.
Does yours have to sit with you too when you're working??

I have that exact island in my studio space too...LOVE IT!...and I LOVE your idea of the tin ceiling tiles to vintage it up...that idea...I am stealing and using in my own space...I LOVE anything old and vintage...and I love my island...but it is really modern...I want to restain and darken the maple wood, but I hadn't figured out what to do with the white back side...you solved that problem for me...THANKS!

Way cool! I want! I want!.. Actually I should be converting our guest bedroom to a craft room this summer.....Once our daughter get her stuff out of there. I have a raised aerobed if we have any guests, I can pull it out. So I have been checking out all of the craft spaces I see here to get some ideas for my room.
Absolutely fabulous!! And I love that you have a bed for your little dog in your stamping room. My dog spends hours in my room with me, too! I tell DH I'm teaching her to make cards!

I have the same island and love it also. Neat idea about putting the bigger top on. I would like to do that with mine as you always need more room. Thanks for sharing.
Kathy
Oh yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!!
I have a similar one from Ikea. Mine is more narrow with the drawers
that can be opened from either side. I love it!
Your room is beautiful!!
I still have your previous post of your room bookmarked somehow! I loved THAT set up - so this is even COOLER! That table is awesome - so happy you found something you love!
Thanks for sharing!!
Right now I use my dinette area to stamp and store supplies. However If /When I have a dedicated stamping area your layout would be perfect for me. I have seen several other large stamping areas and they are nice , I don't expect to ever have a space that large or as many supplies as those people have. Your island idea is perfect because I don't like facing a wall when I work. I like your tall cabinets and the drawers under the counter against the wall are great . It all looks tidy .
Wow, your space is so beautiful and it looks very functional too. I love the island idea. I am going to keep it in mind for the day I have more room. Thanks for sharing.
