Forgot to ask if you are only wanting traditional American recipes or would you like me to send you a few of my DH's, he is a great cook, my only claim to fame is my marmalade that I make from fruit from our own trees, I give most away and the favourite is kumquat, we have so many kumquats on our little tree that anyone who says they enjoyed my marmalade gets a bag of kumquats and a recipe.

Hi Jan, No sending just sharing here.

Its cool to learn all the different things everyone does. Foods, Hints, and Advice!

So what is a Huge Dinner Menu in Spain?
Here in the US its kinda common for everyone to eat Turkey for Thanksgiving. Lots of folks have Ham for Easter.

Sloppy Joe's are browned ground beef with a tomato sauce. My mother adds Gumbo soup to it.
My ex MIL used ketchup (NASTY)

Here's a site with some recipes
Sloppy Joes II Recipe - Allrecipes.com

There is also a product called Manwich, it's a sauce you add to the ground beef.

It is served on a bun

We were invited to a Spanish friends for a family get together , we had tapas which we thought was the buffet, there were chunks of bread with serano ham, cheeses, chorizo, black pudding, not sure if you would know what that is, fish dishes, pork in tomato salsa, chicken pieces , well after we had been eating for about an hour they came out with the paella !! then a selection of homemade cakes and then fresh fruit, cut into chunks on cocktail sticks, delicious, normally the Spanish here on the coast have fish for Christmas
meals. We English out here still have our turkey and pork
Next week we have our son, daughter in law and grandson flying over for a weeks holiday and they have just told us that we are to be grandparents again, very excited.

The only traditional meal in our family has gone by the wayside. DH's family always had oyster stew on Christmas Eve, then we did it for several years. But not anymore. It was just canned oyesters, cream milk and butter. I wonder how come it wen bye bye..Too rich!

Then when DH and I were first married we made peanut brittle every Christmas and continued on as a family. We even have video of us doing with the kids when they were both already not living at home. DH and I did it for a while longer then we quit, because it was too hard on our teeth! LOL The recipe was out of BH&G that I had gotten as a wedding gift.

Vikki Jo, that is about the only food traditions we have had that I can think of right now. My best friend used to fix heart shaped layer cakes and bring to us on Valentines Day. She took them to all her kids, and other friends!

Me and 3 cousins had a debate today on whose Grandma was the better cook.
We agreed that it they all were, since it was always from scratch. None of that crap from a box.

JACK DANIEL'S FUDGE - PERFECT for the holidays!!

5 cups sugar(2 pounds)
2 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup whole milk
1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla
25 large marshmallows, ripped in half
11.5 oz Ghiradelli 60% cocoa bittersweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup Jack Daniels, or a whiskey you really like. You will be able to really taste it!

1. Whisk whiskey with confectioner’s sugar, and set aside.

2. Foil and butter a 9 x 13 (or larger) baking pan.

3. Put sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla in a large pot with a heavy bottom. Stirring steadily until mixture boils, continue stirring while letting it boil for 3 minutes (time it, this is important). Remove from heat.

4. Add the marshmallows and chocolate, stirring until all of it is melted and blended into the sugar mix.

5. Give whiskey mixture a quick stir, and add it to the pot, stirring until fully incorporated.

6. Pour into a greased pan, and chill. Let mellow for a day before cutting.

I made this one, I don't like the smell of Jack, but everyone else said it was good.

I went to a yard sale yeterday and found a box of OLD cook books.
Most are form 1950 some are form 1967;
Tomorrow I will try to scan them and find useful stuff to put in the books for the kids

What a cool find, Vikki! Sounds like a great idea.

Any good cookie recipes out there?

Since my DH's spinal cord injury and surgery last year, he's been home on medical leave. He found a hobby - he likes to bake cookies. I help him by getting out all the ingredients and lifting the pans in & out of the oven of course. His favorite part is mixing all the ingredients together and tweaking the recipe each time. He's like a scientist in the kitchen. He's tried and experimented with all my cookie recipes. He needs some new ones to try out if you have one that comes to mind.

Here's one from Marco's Paper (how fun is that!). I only had them a few times before learning that mint is one of a gazillion things that make my skin itch.

The link included photos too:

Default White chocolate cranberry

These are a family favorite. I use an 11.5 ounce bag of white chocolate chips and 9 ounces of cranberries instead of what the recipe says.
Check out my recipe for Linda's Cranberry Cookies on Pepperplate!
