You will need a way to have light shine through the stencil and the card stock so you can see where to emboss.
I do a lot of dry embossing and do not own a lightbox. I usually tape a brass stencil to the back (cardboard) side of a steno pad. Then I tape the cardstock down with removable scotch tape (the one that comes in a blue package). This way, I can emboss several pieces during a boring conference meeting. LOL
Mostly I use background stencils like bricks or trellis. Although I am not thrilled with the scan -- the bricks look backward to me -- here is the card I put together today: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I've finally uploaded my first cards. I forgot to put in the tlc22 in the keyword section, so I am assuming they won't be forwarded to this challenge. I am waiting on image approval. I just love this website. So many talented stampers with great ideas.
After rushing out to A.C. Moore to get a cheap lightbox, stylus and stencil, I could finally play this evening. I'm working up to combining 3 challenges but this card combines CC20 with TLC22. I had fun ;-)
Okay, this is my first challenge participation and I am so excited to be a part!
My first card I already had in my gallery and the second one I did today.
I hope I did this right...

Congrats on starting your gallery!!!! Great cards! In order for your cards to be referenced in this thread you just need to cut and paste the links in a post. Here are a couple of your cards
I feel so accomplished - finally thought of a way to combine the 3 challenges - TLC22, SC31, CC20! Not sure if the dry embossed border at the top actually shows in the scan or not:
I loved all the challenges this week. I was able to include 4 challenges in 1 card. Wish I had time to do 4 cards. I had not dry embossed for a very long time. Thanks girls for the ideas. Nancy
There is a way to dry emboss on any color of card stock...even black!
Lasting Impressions for Paper makes an embossing card stock. One side is colored/patterned and the other side is white. It makes it a cinch to dry emboss...even on black card stock!
I had given up on dry embossing for a time because I got frustrated that it only worked well with lighter colored card stock. Now that I've found the LI embossing card stock I dry emboss a lot more.
Lasting Impression's paper is the best bet. But if you are adventurous and want to emboss everything/anything the Empressor stylus is worth every penny!
I have uploaded this card several times and each time it kept going away. Finally, I think I have it now. This was created using the Fiskar's ShapeBoss. I enjoy embossing, just don't always want to pull out all of the tools needed to do so. Now that I have the BS and the CB folders as well as an umpteenth # of brass stencils, I'll have to do this more often.
