I am still trying to get a shiny look when painting with any Stampin Up product. Does anyone have any suggestions? I realize that I can use glitter, but there are so many flowers that it makes it difficult. Is there something that I can put in the water?
Thanks for any help.
Hi, Thanks for the tip. I used the Twinkling H2Os and look how that looks, however I really wanted to use Stampin Up products. Last night I tried adding some Pearl Ex to the water when I painted. It was a little too thick on the flower. Tonight I will try the embossing. I am a beginning demonstrator, trying to get the same effect by using the products. I might just use the Twinkling colors. Once again, thanks.
You might try the formula I use when demonstrating that shimmery look without H2Os'. I mix a few drops of water,a little pearl-ex, a drop or two of gum arabic (as a binder) and one or two drops of SU re-inkers (classic). This makes a paint that gives you the same look as H2O's but uses SU products. gum arabic is available at Mike's or any art store.
The other method I use is to mix either matte or shiny Delta Ceramcoat clear varnish with reinkers, and pearl-ex. I use this method on wood frequently because it self seals, but you can also use it on paper. Again, available at Mike's or HobLob.
In either case, you need to spread the "paint" thin.

Since you are a demo and stated you are trying to use itrems available through SU, you might consider trying the metallic art pencils (sold by SU) and "painting" a thin coat of Crystal Effects (another item sold by SU) over the image. Or (possibly ... don't know if the pencils would smear) inking the colored image(s) with VersaMark and heat embosiing with clear powder.
I have not tried this (don't own the pencils) but it could help from a business perspective.
I dilute Lumire and use it to paint, with or without pearlex. The most I have diluted it is 4 water to 1 lumire, but you could probably dilute it more, depending on the amount of shine you want. Stampin' Up used to sell Lumire, but sadly, no more.
Since SU discontinued Lumiere I have been using cheap Pearl White acrylic paint from the craft store and getting the same results! I mixed it with Pearl-Ex and got a lovely background. I also used it on glossy paper then brayered reinker over it like in the old issue of SS. It works very well! I can't tell a difference between it and Lumiere.
great thread! When I was picking up some sharpies at Aaron brothers I grabbed some Gum Arabic. Thanks for all the great information ladies
