Candle directions

Hey all, I am wanting to make some candles to give away at a baby shower w/a little poem. I have never made the candles before and was hoping someone could give me some directions! I have never even seen the candles before (yes I'm a newbie! lol) Do you just stamp on the candles or do you stamp on paper and somehow apply and is there a heat gun involved? I'm always looking for a good excuse to use the old heat gun! thanks in advance

The way I do it is I stamp on tissue paper, then I use my embossing gun to adhere it against the candle. (As the wax warms, it sort of "absorbs" the tissue and you don't see the tissue anymore, just the stamped image.)

The way my upline taught me is to stamp on tissue paper and then use the heat emboss gun to stick the vellum to the candle. If there is another way to do it I would love to know about it. I love doing candles this way and they are always a big hit at my WS's. I haven't done it for a long time though.

If I remember correctly you stamp on tissue paper. Then you take the image you stamped and lay it on the candle with a peice of waxed paper over the top. Take you heating tool and heat the waxed paper until the tissue paper becomes part of the candle. The wax from the waxed paper seals the tissue paper. It really is cool and I hopr I have explained it correctly. Hope this helps! One hint though, the tissue paper needs to be the same color as the candle. It just looks better that way.

Thanks for your quick responces!!! Can I just use my classic pads & maybe markers or do i have to use stazon or does it matter?

I used my classic pads. I have also heard you can emboss on it but I have never tried that one.

Oh wow - I can hardly wait to try this. I received some orange tissue paper as packing material in a package I received.

What do you think about orange candles with black halloween designs?

Now I think I will start looking for the candles. Do I need craft ink or will classic ink work?

thanks for the tips. I was going to do cream colored candles, do i need off white tissure paper or is white close enought?

If the cream isn't too dark, the white should work well.

They are vanilla scented, so they are not that dark, we've all seen vanilla candles, so I'll try it w/the white

I did some on the vanilla candles for gifts for teacher friends for Christmas. They turned out beautful - and really, really quick and easy. Have fun and let us know how the turn out.

Can you do any style candle or only ones that burn inside and leave a shell. Are votives okay since they burn completly? This seems like a really cool project.

I wouldn't do it on the votives. It may be a fire hazard, and mess at best.

I used the really cheap 3" pillar candles you get at the local craft store for $1 each.

I have always used the stamped tissue paper next to the candle then waxpaper over that. Then I heat it with the heat gun. These have always been hits as gifts. I even made one by coping a wedding invitation on to tissue paper then added stamped images and making the candle like that.I added a bow to the bottom. It turned out very well and the bride was very happy with it. It was very easy and looked "high tech"! What non-stampers don't know...;-)

Well girls, we just got thru with a marathon invitation making, candle making, mini candy label making marathon, lol! It was all for my best friends baby shower. The candles turned out really well. I did small vanilla votives and applied the welcome baby stamp from feathered friends in perfect plum. We then put the candles in the little mesh draw string bags and attached a poem to the side of the bag.

I'm really gald you could come,
Sit dow, relax enjoy yourselves
And chat with one anohter.
Sorry I can't be with you
To share in Mommy's shower,
But you see I'm very busy
Growing more each hour.
When Mommy is in labor
Please do us a favor.
Light this candle and say a prayer
