Default Candle stamping questions

Ok - I'm such a lurker here - I think this may be my first post!! I decided to make stamped candles for Christmas, so I started playing around with it this weekend. When I used the wax paper to wrap around the candle, my embossed image stuck to the wax paper and ripped off! What did I do wrong? Heat too long? not enough?

Default use tissue paper instead

I stamped (and then embossed) my images on tissue paper, then cut closely around the image. Wrapped that around the candle, then used heat gun to melt the wax of the candle ever-so-slightly into the tissue paper. I've also seen it done where you don't cut out the images, just wrap the whole candle in paper, but I had a hard time lining up the images where I wanted them on the candle that way.
