Some time ago there were a lot of projects using these coasters. I just bought some and now I can't remember what I wanted them for! I guess I can chalk that up to getting older! The only thing I could find in doing a search were the directions for a box. Are there other uses!

I know what you mean! I bought a whole box of them and I don't use them either. I know you can make frames and boxes. You can make hanging plaques like the one my friend made here: Pretty Coaster Plaque by jpmayo at Splitcoaststampers
But I would love some more ideas. I have a huge 3-D swap coming up and I would love to use some of my coasters- since I have so many of them.
Have fun with it. I'm making a Mothers Day one too.

i have made quite a few wallhangings with them, by hinging them together. i use chipboard letters to spell out a word (I did a LOVE one, a MERRY one, and a PLAY one) using a chipboard letter on each coaster, and covering with paper. i would love to show you photos but the two i have pictures for are both out for publication. they are LOTS of fun though!! you can also hinge them together (three works well) and decorate as small tabletop photo displays.
Thanks for the ideas! Love the little scrapbook and the hanging plaques.

I recently did post it notes (reminds me I need to make one to go in a Mother's Day gift tonite!!!), wall hangings that spelled out LOVE for Valentine's Day connected by ribbon taped to the back. I also made a "box" adhered paper to four coasters and connected them with ribbon and painted the one on the bottom.
Wow! Those are great ideas! I may try the clippy picture frame one from Jami' blog! I love Faith's mirror, but since I have to make 20 of them I would never have the time to put all the beautiful details Faith has put into hers. I would not be happy with them after seeing how gorgeous her project is!
These are so cute!! I actually went a little out of my way on the way home and stopped at Big Lots and bought the clips for 2/.88! So much cheaper than the ones I bought in Staples that were 3/4.89!! helllloooo...will be returning those tomorrow on my lunch break!!! lol
Thanks for the tip to her blog! Going to make a few of these tonite!
Hi! I wanted to share what I've been doing with mine. Have a look HERE. I have a tutorial on how to make them too. I love some of these other ideas! I will have to try them too!
Deena
I got mine at Olive Gardens and this is what I've done with them so far. You know how you find dishes in the sink because the excuse is that "nobody" knew if the dishes in the washer were clean or dirty? Well I fancied them up and put the words "Dirty" on one and "Clean" on the other. I added a magnet on the back and now there are no excuses, AND, if the dishes are clean then they get put away by the one in charge...my daughter.
I think some restaurants quit using them because stampers would "pocket" them, LOL!
Anyway, a good place to start is the buy/sell/trade forum here at SCS. The cheapest way to get coasters it to buy them in bulk (like 1,000+). Most of the people who do that sell them off in smaller packs. So go to the "sell" forum and you'll probably find some!
Most restaurants have them. Applebys, Olive Gardens, Chili's has them for sure. I usually collect every ones at our table before they set the drinks on them. The waiters will give us some more and I collect those after we're done. Sometimes, if you ask, they will give you some extra.
EDIT: Oops--I made a mistake--I made this using cereal box cardboard, but it's the same size and shape and if I had owned coasters at the time, I would have used them!
I covered some with DP, attached a pad of post-its, and a decorated clip. I ran into an amazing sale at my local Staples -- they had a clearance of 8 colored clamps for 50 cents. I took all I could carry!!! The colors match Stampin' Up colors, too! I made one in Sahara Sand for my mom on Mother's Day.
I really wanted to make calendars but my friend told me I shouldn't since it is already May. :(
Why the heck not? Just make one June to June! It will still be a wonderful handmade item, no one will refuse it, I promise you! Or, you could make it June to January if you're worried about leaving someone without a calendar in June. I say go for it!
There's a tutorial on SCS for a Jacob's Ladder....similar to a coaster hanging, but they're connected with ribbon instead and they flip/flop when you hold one end or the other. Great way to give a gift of photos.

I believe American Coaster sells them in bulk in differing weights - depending upon what you need. They are very inexpensive. Just do a google search for American Coaster.

I just bought some from allthatscraps too and the reason I did was b/c of a project I saw on Amy Rysavy's blog, in which she used coaster, nestabilities dies and cuttlebug to make these cute little frames.
check out her blog! She used them as father's day gifts, but I thought they would make great baby shower favors too.
For those of you who are looking for various size chipboard sheets, you can go to www.chipboardsheets.com. She also has an ebay store under ckresale (the owner's name is Christina). She sent me a sample of the chipboard she sells awhile back and they are an excellent quality - great to alter or stamp on. She sells them in bulk for a great price too. If you don't find the size you are looking for, you can ask to cut a custom size for you if you are looking to make a book of some sort. I think she is also going to be selling some chipboard sheets that have the rounded edge in the future.
Also, you can get chipboard coasters from restaurants. I just asked the waiter or waitress for some. They mostly have the round ones. I have not tried to alter those. I have also used cereal and pancake boxes for faux chipboard sheets or have made shapes out of them and altered.

Just a thought (and sorry if it's been mentioned, I haven't finished the thread, but didn't want to forget it by the time I did!) - if you've got school age kids (or teachers to give gifts to), make the calendars anyway - make them school year based instead. I've seen them starting with June and running through the next August, so that they cover both summers.
I bought some coasters from a consultant for a stamp company (non-SU) before my "inheritance", but used them to make covers for a coaster album swap, so I needed more. Most restaurants will give you a few (or a lot, depending) if you ask. Bars (if you ever go into them or know someone who does) get them free from their vendors (Budweiser, Coors, etc.), so they have no problem sharing, either.

Wow, girl!!!! Those are some stunning creations you've got on your Blog. Thanks so much for sharing. I REALLY (not yelling at you, they are just so cool ) love the coaster albums. I think I'll have to make some time and CASE one or two;) .
Thanks for sharing!!!!!

Are you talking about, where to get the coasters? If so, at the beginning of this thread there are a few online sources. I've put a link to a website in post # 26 as well.
