Talking cracked glass

Hello all...

I am very new to this group, but very excited to have found you all! I discovered the 'cracked glass technique' and was very excited... in fact I planned on using it for my Christmas cards.... BUT my first attempt worked okay... so I went on to the second try... I am having GREAT difficulty keeping the Glassy Glaze ON the paper... I tried with embossing heat tool close... far away... it just blows right off! any suggestions??? I have already changed my Christmas Card idea... because I got too frustrated. But would love to use this technique in the future.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!!

Try heating it from the underside. The powder shouldn't fly off if you heat it that way.

Did you ink the cardstock with Versamark before you sprinkled on the Glazzy Glaze?

I will definitely try heating from underneath...

I was trying to make sure I had enough to make the "bumpy layer" as indicated in the technique instructions. So maybe I used too much on the second one.

I did use versamark... do you think I should use a different type of embossing ink?

I don't think so, I LOVE Versamark and it worked great for me with this technique.

You want to use VersaMark. I always make sure I ink up each layer really well and coat the layer of VersaMark with the glassy glaze. I don't try to pour the powder on while it's still hot from the previous heating.... it never works for me, I guess I'm too slow. I also leave the image in the freezer for about 10 minutes and make sure you crack it quickly because if it starts getting even the least bit warm again it won't crack ... it just bends.

Here is one that I did quite a while ago for a swap. I also taught this technique at one of my monthly clubs but I don't have a scan of that card yet.

This is one of my favorite techniques

I had fun teaching a class on this, and here are just a couple more tips. For small images sprinkle additional powder for your next layer while the glaze is still hot. For large images allow card stock to cool completely and apply additional versamark before sprinkling powder over the image. I do at least 4 layers.

Here's my class sample
