When I tried the cracked glass technique with UTEE, some of the cracks lifted from the paper. I tried remelting it and cracking again, but it did the same thing. Am I missing something? Do you have to put some sort of sealer (CE maybe?) over the finished piece to keep the UTEE from catching on something and ripping off?
When I do this technique I take it a step further. After I've cracked the UTEE, I rub ink over it. Dark green or brown work well. Rub it into the cracks, then quickly remove the ink from the top of the piece with a damp paper towel. At that point you can reheat the surface a little bit to keep it from coming off. Just don't over heat it.
I have used my 'More mustard" ink pad and rubbed the pad directly on the whole surface and then the wiped excess ink off with a paper towel. Very 'antique'-looking.
It helps to heat the UTEE from the underside of the paper to prevent the crystals from splattering and scattering- they just melt and very few crystals are lost.
I use two coats of the UTEE and it gives thicker layer to crack.
If the UTEE cracks too much and chips actually fall off :o -just remelt and refreeze and crack again!
Have fun!
