Default Dry Embossing....Question

Hello,

Ok, so I ordered a dry embossing tool and some stencils from Close to My Heart. Do I need the light thing? What is the purpose to that? If someone could explain the purpose (besides being able to see better), that would be great!

I thought it was funny this weeks' challenge was dry embossing, considering I just bought this!

Thank you!

Post Light table!

I LOVE my light table for dry embossing! It makes it so easy. You put your stencil on the table, your paper over it and then "draw" with your stylus. I couldn't really figure out how to emobss without a light table (and I got it for half-price at Michaels). It was worth it! The only problem is if the paper is too dark, then you arent able to see the stencil underneath the paper. I am sure someone on this site will have an answer to that! Good luck!

You should check out the tutorial. It explains it all (and has great pics, too!). You can use a window if it's daytime, or a glass surface with a light under it if it's not. HTH.

This is what I do! We have an end table with a glass top. I stick either a low lamp underneath or my heavy duty fashlight.

PS Before I had a stylus embossing tool, I used knitting needles to emboss.

I love my light table. It makes dry embossing easier.

the light underneath helps to show where the stencil is at so you don't get stray embossing marks on your paper. Think of shadows that are made from the light and that's what the lightbox does. hth

I have a light table and use it but I recall someone suggesting using a glass Pyrex casserole dish, flipping it over and putting a string of Christmas lights underneath and voila! you got yourself a light table.

If your paper isn't terribly dark (black, navy, dark brown...) you can use your light table at night.. with the room lights off. This does help quite a bit.
