Ladies:
While Melissa did a great job of explaining the technique, I'd like to clarify a bit, if I may. I was a MnT Helper, Session II in Jaron's techniques class. Here is what we did and Jaron's hints:
1) We inked the solid stamps from EAT CAKE (the present and balloon) in Gable Green
2) Using the Garden Annuals wheel, roll it a bit on the tempting turquoise pad; then using the area you inked, SQUIGGLE it a couple of times onto the inked surface of your solid stamp.
3) Turn muddy looking solid stamp over and press image onto cardstock and viola!, you've got faux shaving cream.
Jaron tried this with other wheels, but he felt that the Garden Annuals was the only one which game him the desired effect. Also, if you roll your wheel onto the cardstock after SQUIGGLING, you'll get a 2-toned image - so your faux shaving cream is now a bonus wheel technique too!

I was in Jaren's technique class on the 1st day of session 2. I love this technique. Of course, the other techniques were wonderful, but this was my favorite. Thanks for helping out. Where is Middletown, Ohio? I'm from Alliance.

I was one of the lucky recipients of your efforts and truly appreciated it! Please don't feel they weren't good enough!! Some people just need a visual to help them out and I think that is all that was being offerred here. Your description was right on for me.
I'm sure Melissa was just trying to give a different perspective, and by no means meant your explanation wasn't good enough. Don't take it personally. Between both of you, EVERYONE should have no doubts on how to do this technique! Thanks for sharing your version, and you were so nice to e-mail 170 people! I know they are all extremely grateful. It's a dangerous thing to offer to e-mail out things to people on this website because there are so many users! Everyone loved that you talked about what Jason did. I was there, and I couldn't have done it better!

FYI - have been using the "happy" stamp from the happy everything set to do the shaving cream part and it works wonderfully! There is a sample in my gallery using the elephant from Wild About You if you wanted to check it out for another example.

I learned this faux shaving cream technique at convention and just loved it. I actually let me customers try it on a project at a workshop last week and it worked great! I used the worm from the "cute as a bug" set and several different wheels they all worked just fine. I wanted my stamped worms to kind of look like gummy worms...and this tye-dye look did the trick. I will try to post a picture of my example tonight. What a GREAT new technique!
I was intrigued, so I just tried this. I had a hard time with the wheel though. So I inked up the cake in gable green and the little star background (that also comes with "Eat Cake") in lovely lilac. I smeared the star background around on the cake and stamped. I love the effect I got. Maybe this will help some who are "wheel-challenged". Still looks like shaving cream to me.
Instructions: using a solid stamp (we used the baloon from Eat Cake), ink with a light color (we used gable green), then using a wheel inked with another color (we used tempting turquoise), 'squiggle' the wheel over the solid image & stamp. Don't 'squiggle' too much or you will lose the effect.
It is really cool but I haven't had time to try it since I've been home. :(
Just found this thread. What could you use if you wanted to use this as a background. I can't think of any BG that I have that could used. Thanks for the thumbnails so that I could see the results. Very neat effect without getting your hands covered in ink!

I may be misunderstanding, so if I am I'm sorry, but I think the goal of this technique is to get a stamped image to have the shaving cream look to it.
For background paper with the shaving cream look you would use the traditional non-faux method of actual shaving cream and reinkers.
Hope that makes sense.
