I am looking for ideas/hints/suggestions for Faux stitching in both scrapbooks and cards... I don't really have any ideas other than trying to avoid a needle and thread
JulieHRR has done some great things using a white gel pen for faux stitching. You could use a paper piercer to make the holes, then connect them with the pen. I recently purchased the mat pack from Stampin Up and it includes a plastic grid with holes that you can use to measure spacing or to do paper piercing.
I lay my paper on a piece of dense foam or cardboard, then use a thick needle (like an embroidery needle) to punch the holes using a ruler as the guideline. That way the straight edge is there, as well as the equally spaced marks. For those with sewing machines, you can also run the paper through the machine with no thread to get the same effect quickly and more perfectly.
So to do her technique do you draw a line with the gel pen then make holes with a piercer or do i have that backwards??
I use the Paper Piercing Tool, the Piercing/Hole Guide, and the Piercing Mat from the SU! Crafter's Tool Kit.
After piercing the holes, I "connect the dots" with the Uniball White Gel Pen. You could also use other pens, but that one really "pops", and appears amazingly realistic.
If I'm working on a curve, I do the piercing free-hand.

Another idea is to use a pattern tracing wheel (used in sewing), to make your dots, then connect with a gel pen. Your dots will always be the exact same size and distance from each other. You can actually use the sewing transfer paper to mark the dots on your paper then connect them with the gel pen.

I'm so glad to come across this thread as I have been wanting to do the faux stitching. I already have the mat pack and just need to order a white gel pen. I love the idea of using a tracing wheel too. Thanks for all the tips. I can't wait to try this.
P.S. Thanks for the tip on using an old mousepad for a mat--we have a ton of those lying around and they would work great. I was using my huge quilting mat pad and it was just so massive.
