faux wood
thank you for posting the web site for everyone to use! I went to the site, and she has some GREAT ideas, as well as samples. I've also been wanting to know how to do this technique!
Anyone looking for great technique instructions should check out www.techniquejunkies.com. Pat Huntoon has a FABULOUS newsletter that is well worth every penny spent on the subscription. She does step by step picture tutorials and has a team of amazing artists that creates incredible sample cards for each one. Anita
Yesterday was Monday, and the challenge on Mondays (for those who wish to participate) is "Try a new Technique". Yesterday's technique was the faux wood one which you noticed.
Here's the link to TLC91, the challenge, with instructions: TLC91 - Knock on Wood <--click!
(If you go back to look at the cards, look in the 'Keywords' area and you should see TLC91 which references the Technique Challenge #.)
FYI...If you look on the home page of SCS, on the right hand side, you'll see in the margin "Weekly Challenges" and below it the days of the week and the challenge for each day.
I just saw some cards on the site with faux wood background. Is that a stamp or hand drawn and watercolored in. Kittie 747 just posted one recently (with the gingham red bow at the top) that is just beautiful. How is it done-I looked through the catalog and can't find the stamp--GIL

Thanks so much for the link--so is there a wheel in the catalog called "dry brush"? Then you just draw in the lines and nailheads yourself? Just wanted to make sure I am understanding correctly?
GIL, yes it's a jumbo wheel. You can use that to make your cardstock look like wood. You can also use your ink pads and drag them over the cardstock until it resembles wood. Or you can use reinker and a tooth brush.
If you are talking about woodgraining then you couldn't have picked a better time. There is a video technique tutorial on http://www.stampingfreak.com/

Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
Okay, I guess I'm missing something very obvious here... Can someone please help me? I cannot find the tuitorial on doing the faux wood grain. Please someone link it to me before I loose my mind! I would truly appreciate it.
Well, for a minute there I thought perhaps you had gone insane. All that ink and rubber, you know. BUT, it was Technique Challenge number 91 - Knock on Wood and here's the link to that challenge with examples and instructions I do believe. Whenever I'm stuck on a technique that I just know exists, or think exists, that's where I go. They usually have it. And if they don't, then you can suggest it. A win-win either way. I've tried both websites posted and I don't see anything about faux wood.

I can't figure out after the faux wood is on the paper, how the did the lines for the different planks and the nail heads.
