Default floating image

can someone explain the floating image technique to me? I saw one that looked interesting but can't quite figure out how to do it from the picture? thanks.

Usually, if you try SEARCH (look above this post in the white spot), and type in what you're looking for, you can find quite a few threads with help!
To find the thread from above, I just typed in FLOATING. It was mid-way down.

i typed in floating in the search and kept getting things about christmas ornaments, etc... nothing about floating images. thanks for the thread
