Does anyone have the genie bag instructions? I saw the examples in the gallery but didn't see any instructions posted.
Thank you
I just went and looked at the examples in the gallery and I suspect the reason directions haven't been shared in the forum is because they really aren't needed. It looks like they have just attached cardstock to the sides of a lunch bag. I could be wrong but if I were to experiment with this technique that's where I'd start.
the handle is madw with the square punch first, then the (same size) circle punch to rounds the ends. My upline made these at our last group meeting, they were SOOO fun!! I did them at a camp about a month ago, and the girls LOVED them- you can coordinate with the cards!!!
I love these bags and plan to have them as a make and take at my open house. I just don't understand which square punch to use as the handle. I have the word window punch - which is what it looks like they used to me. But I think that would probably be too small.
This is my plan - 12x12 cardstock cut in half. Mount each piece to one side of a lunch bag. Does this sound reasonable? If I could get some guidance on the handle part, I would be truly grateful!
Thanks so much,
Linda **
Looks to me like she punched 2 circles, then cut out the area between them (I would use an Exacto knife and my metal ruler, or try to line it up on my personal cutter.)
You could pm the creator and ask her to post her technique so we can all CASE!

punch one circle then move to the other end punch another circle, then use the square punch (use same size punch as the circle) to cut out the area inbetween
I used a circle punch and then cut the middle using my paper trimmer... just lined my cut up to the very top and the very bottom of the circles. Comes out perfect every time. I'm not sure if that is how they are "really" done but it worked for me!
I use a word window punch, You can punch it twice overlapping the first punched hole, to make it a little bit longer if needed. I've also seen a cute one using the tag punch to make the handle look like a bow. I've also seen large circle or rectangle punches. I'd love to see other ideas here too.

Here is the gist for non demos that can't see this thread:
There really is no pattern - it depends of the size of paper bag that you use. Cut off the top of the paper bag. Cut 2 pieces of CS so they fit exactly the width and are higher than the bag. Punch 2 circles from top of CS. Connect the circles using a square punch so that they make a smooth handle. Decorate CS and attach to bag. Very cute and easy. I have also made a bow shaped handle by using one circle punch and 2 sideways tag punches. Here are the ones I submitted to the tag punch contest.

You can also do an "Advanced Search" by clicking on the search button near the upper right of the screen. Type in keywords "genie bag" and I'm sure the results will lead you to plenty of helpful info.
SCS's powerful search engine can help you find a LOTTA stuff! ;) Heh, heh, heh!

What exactly are genie bags? In the gallery they look like decorated gift bags. Am I missing something?

The link I posted above is not for demos only--I have no problem opening it. I have read recently that people are hav ing troubles with some links and in the gallery. There is a link, though, in another thread linked through the thread I posted that is demo only, but the directions are given below the link. Here is what was posted by Kim Wilson in that thread: "Here is the gist for non demos that can't see this thread: There really is no pattern - it depends of the size of paper bag that you use. It's called a Genie bag, because the gal that uploaded them first around here was named, Genie........hence the name, Genie Bag.

I can't open the link to the thread - I am not a demonstrator but I joined Splitcoast as a member... help? I want to see what you are talking about with the bags. Thanks!
Actually I get it now - you knew we non-demos couldn't see it so you did tell us what the thread was all about. Sorry - took me a while to understand. thanks for the great ideas.
Do a search for Genie Bags in the forums and in the gallery. You will find lots of great samples. THis question is being moved from Downloads to General Stamping Talk.
Thank you very much. I wasn't sure where to post! I'm new to posting threads. I spent hours looking last night and I finally found what I wanted. Thank you for guiding me to the correct forumn and for you help. It is very much appreciated. Thanks Again
