so I just grabbed a piece of scrap paper and had to try this! it was soo easy! Thank you soo much for the instructions! I will never have to tie a bow again!!!!!
I do these bows all the time too. There are so many variations once you start...with loops, without loops, with ends in the front as Lynn showed or with the ends not brought back through. You can taylor them to your cards' needs. Here are some more examples...So much fun! Gallery at Splitcoaststampers Gallery at Splitcoaststampers Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Thanks so much for your kind and generous remarks.
Here is how this bow is done:
The bow is threaded through holes made with a double slot punch. Have you done the one where you insert the ribbon from the top and then thread the ends of the ribbon back through? Well, to create this look, instead of inserting the ends back through, you push the center of the tail back through and pull up as much as you want to make the loops on each side. I use about 8 inches of ribbon and I push it through with the blade of my scissors. Then you finish off by pushing the ends up through the holes and adjusting them to the position you want before trimming them off. This is a pretty tight fit through the holes. I hope this is somewhat clear. It does better with organdy but as you can see on my card, it can be done with grograin as well.
One day I might take the time to write a tutorial with pictures but don't have time today.
I just found this thread and am happy to the poster and the instructor. I've made this bow without the loops and love the loop look. Will be practicing tonight. Thanks for something new--to me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your instructions. That was really great. I tried it and I finally have a beautiful bow. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you
Thanks for all the instructions, pictures, and examples. The things a stamper can learn on this site are un-bow-lievable!!! Sorry, I couldn't help it...

Just want to jump in on the I LOVE THIS. But I can't wrap my brain around it. I am so written instruction impaired. I am gonna try and come back. Can anyone just come over and show me this???
Thanks again for all of you who share your wonder.

Okay... I *think* I have it but I'm not sure. I'm using grosgrain ribbon and the back doesn't look quite as neat as the picture on the last page which looked like there was a single ribbon stitch across both front & back.
Here's what I did, is this right?
1) Punched cardstock with double slot punch
2) threaded a piece of ribbon through the two slots (so both tails are on one side and there is a ribbon stitch across space on the front side between the two slots)
3) made a loop in the right hand tail and pushed it up through the left hand slot, pulling out the top until I had a nice amount of loop for a bow loop.
4) made a loop in the left hand tail and pushed it up through the right hand slot.
5) put the tail end dangling from the right hand side up through the left hand slot to be the bow end on that side.
6) put the tail end dangling from the left hand side up through the right hand slot to be the bow end on that side.
If it's right maybe it will help others who are confused, if it's wrong please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Well done! That is exactly right! On the back there are several layers of ribbon. That's why I am always careful if I am using grosgrain to attach it to a substantial layer that I can glue down with my trusty Mono Multi so it will lay flat.

Oh Thank God! I couldn't get my brain around the directions either. This is so much more handy. THANK you. THANK You!! And "renaissancegeer", also. Thanks for the re-wording..
I made that bow at a workshop once and we used organdy ribbon. Even though the ribbon is very thin, it was hard to get that last bit of ribbon through the slit punch holes. Has anyone tried this bow with bigger holes such as a 1/4-inch round punch? Maybe that would only be a good idea with either wide or thicker ribbon so it doesn't unravel, but I'll give that a practice run to see how it works.
