irridescent ice

I bought the irridescent ice embossing powder-it just looks so pretty and sparkly in the container..but then..when I emboss with it..it just doesnt look nice. Half the time I can't really see it. Maybe I'm just not using it w/the correct color paper?? Has anyone had any success in using it and can tell me what I need to do ?? I'm sure it really is pretty..but maybe i'm just not using it right? any tips would be helpful!!!

In the Resource section, they have a tutorial using it and they are using white glossy cardstock with it. I have not personally used it, but I have some. I think I may have to try it this weekend!
Good luck!

You might be over heating it. Heat it until it just melts. If you over heat it the sparkly effect is ruined.

What Laurie said...

It works better on darker colors, too. I have never used it on Glossy paper, but use it on WW and VV all the time. I love it!

Just make sure that your gun is hot before you heat the II and watch it closely. Once it turns (loses the "whiteness of the II), it is good. Too much heat= no sparkles, just a cake-y, yucky look.

HTH!

I haven't used it on dark cardstock, so I'm not sure.

Try out the Dazzling Diamond Dust technique with it: Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

I love this technique, it's currently my favorite!

It could also be the color of Pigment ink that you are using underneath the EP. If you use a clear ink, the only thing that you will see when you heat it is the faintness of glitter sparkle...if you use a darker ink (or even a white pigment ink), then you will see that color of ink WITH the sparkles. Try that and see if it helps you!

Here is how I learned to use this stuff.

Stamp your image on glossy card stock, then stamp over the whole image with versa mark, then cover with the ICE and heat with gun. You have to heat longer so the ice becomes cracked or clear.. Easy but getting the heating right is the trick.

It does melt down almost clear, and then with little sparkles. To make it "pop", use it on an already stamped image (use the stamp-a-ma-jig to line them up perfectly) This may be more the effect you're wanting.

Something to try--good luck!

Thanks for the tips..I am going to try to play around w/it some more

I did..however..emboss on vellum..and watercolored the back and attached it to white cardstock and it came out really pretty! I'll upload the card soon so you can see!

Default Irr Ice

I ditto what is said about over heating! I recently used this on some swap cards I was making & overheated the first one I made. Fortunately it was an extra and not too noticeable so I salvaged the card anway!

I have also used this where for example we stamped with Versamark a snowflake, covered with white EP heated. Then took the Versamark pad and covered the entire square, sprinkled II on it, heated it again and it turned out just beautifully!

I also used it with Roses in Winter. I stamped the roses in blue's with some green leaves cut around them. With a scrap piece of paper underneath I again, used the Versamark to paper and then sprinkled with II and heated. I pop dotted the cut image but it really made the roses sparkle!

Good Luck!
