I posted this website on other forums but will post it again for those who didn't get it. It's a detailed step-by-step instruction from the lady that created the technique. Please visit:
Yup, The gamsol tech. and Magic Colored Pencil Tech. are one in the same...Debbie Gimbal invented it..My friend Michele, owner of Purple Onion stamps introduced me to it..I posted the tutorial as well as a few tips from Debbie in a thread in general discussion, under the prismacolor thread..Kerilou
Gamsol is the name of the odorless mineral spirits that she uses but has nothing to do with ther name being Gimbel (if that's what you meant).
I know many people have a hard time finding the Gamsol. Michael's and AC Moore does not carry. You have to try an art supply stores. Even then some of them still don't carry it. If you order it from Dick Blick you're going to pay a very high shipping charge because it considered "Hazardous Material" and therefore carries a much higher shipping charge. The first time I ordered it (5 years ago) I paid (9.00) S&H for 1 can not knowing this. Michaels carries an odorless mineral spirit used for thinning oils and cleaning brushes which I've used and seems to work the same. I can't remember what it's called because I no longer have it but if I go to Michaels and find it I will let you know. I know it's not "Turponoid" although some customers have also used that in desperation.
Hi, there, I just had to poke my nose here, as I am the mad inventor of Magic Colored Pencil. I'd be real happy if you used Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits, and certainly not turpentine- so much safer. You can order it from Dick Blick or Art Supply Warehouse - and they both have good quality stumps by the dozen (and yes, they are cheaper by the dozen - love to say that
Then other names to possibly be found at both the art or craft stores:
Sansodor by Windsor Newton
Gamlin Gamsol
Mona Lisa Artist Odorless Paint Thinner by Houston Arts (if you read the label it supposedly says 100% odorless mineral spirits).
I hope this helps!
(this is from the GD board) taken off 2 peas message board...
