Would someone please explain how to do mirror images? Is it with a mirror image stamp or is there another way? I have a small mirror image stamp but not a large enough one to use with my Lovely as a Tree set. Thank you so much,
Tonya
I've also read on this site (haven't personally tried it yet) that you can stamp the image on acetate and then "stamp" this on your paper for a mirror image.

My experience with the brayer is that you really have to ink up the stamp in order for it to transfer a solid image.
That being said, I'm using my rubber brayer.....should try the solid one maybe :?

All you need to do is find a solid shape stamp that is large enough to stamp the image that you are wanting to reverse. Ink up the tree stamp, stamp it on the solid stamp and then stamp on the paper. Only thing to remember is that the reverse image will be second generation.
I've done a card with the Lovely as a Tree stamp (the row of trees). I used the brayer. It was the rubber brayer. I inked up the tree just like I normally would and ran my brayer over it. Then stamped the image on the paper with the brayer.
One thing I will try next time..... the first time, I stamped my image first and then stamped my mirror image from the brayer. I will do the mirror image first next time just so I can line them up better.

Good idea Angie.... I was just showing my DH some of the Lovely As A Tree cards on here that had mirrored images and told him I could never make that because it would be absolutely impossible for me to line them up. Duh - never think of the things that are too easy to think of!
Now I will try it! My poor brayer has gotten more use in the last 2 days than it has in the last 2 years! And if it doesn't do something right for me - it's in the garbage!
Thanks MaryEileen for the possible places to look. I think Angie's idea is great about doing the mirror image first. I would of never thought of that...too easy a solution...lol.
Thanks everyone and anyone else with please keep posting.
TIA
Tonya
I personally use a piece of acetate. You can see through it to position it correctly, and the ink cleans off the acetate with just a tissue. With the brayer you have to make sure you position it correctly on the paper to center it.
With the acetate, just stamp the image, flip it upside down on you cs and rub over it with your finger. It gives it a nice mirror image.

I bought a piece of rubber that is about 3" X 5" at Michaels in the art dept. It is specifically for making your own rubber stamp. It only cost about $2.00. I use it to make mirror images and it works perfectly. You can mount it on a block of wood if you want or even cut it to a smaller size. It makes a very crisp image.

My Micheal's doesn't have the rubber to make your own stamp so I think I will try the acetate, sounds fairly easy. Thanks everyone, your help is greatly appreciated.

I never heard of using acetate before. This sounds so much easier than the way I did it. I used one of the stamps from The Shape of Things for my card, then used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up perfectly. Because the mirror image is second generation, I also stamped the original image in second generation so the two are more closely alike. Here's a link to what I did:

I have a stamp set made by Image Tree. I bought the set at Joann's. I use the stamps often. Ink your solid stamp with your selected color ink. And then ink the image you want to get the mirror effect from.
I have tried but not found a great way so I stamp on vellum and then turn it over and stamp on the other side. I've never had success with the brayer technique although I have tried it several times. Let us know what works for you!
Rather than paying so much for a rubber sheet at an art store, go to HD or Lowe's and go to the plumbing department and look for rubber gaskets. Mine came in two sheets aboute 6 x 9" and was quite cheap.
HTH.
Another good way to do it is to use the plastic sheet that comes with your Stamp-a-ma-jig. Stamp on the smooth side not the rough side and then you can turn it over and press right where you want it. Hope this is helpful.
I'll have to try the acetate. Can't get the brayer to do what I want it to, but I do have the block I bought to make a stamp that I use for reflections. That's a cute fishy!
A good source for mirror stamps is www.alextamping.com. They have mirror stamps (same image, just one is left, one is right, like a palm frond or a beach) and reflection stamps (canoe with fisherman with one right side up and one upside down).
