I use a clothespin to hold a cotton ball. Then I dip the cotton ball in rubbing alcohol. Put a drop or two of classic ink refills (I usually use 2 colors) on the cotton ball. Add a drop of a metallic ink refill. Dab this all over a piece of glossy white cardstock. Swirl the cotton ball or just dab it - the look ends up a bit different. Experiment on small pieces of glossy white CS to see what kind of look you like. No two pieces will end up the same, but they should all be beautiful.
I want to add..that I went to the above Thread suggestion and Jan Tinks method of Polished Stone listed there...works really well! But I ran out of makeup sponges and used small felt squares instead....it worked!

One thing I had never noticed until someone pointed it out here, was that if you rub on the gold, it will rub off, on my polished stone. I guess I never tried it before so never noticed.
THe secret is just don't rub, I realize, but I has anyone ever "sealed" it?
I use Krylon, too, because the glossy finish paper has a tendency to scratch, as well. I use which kind my hand finds first... lol It takes so little that it really doesn't seem to make much difference... but then again, I'm not as picky as I should be.

You can use cheap hairspray, eg Sudden Beauty. Just don't get anything with additives in it, i.e. Vitamin E. Also, if you get "unscented" it has more products in it than the "regular scented" (... don't ask, to long to go into here) so, there may be an additive that will not let you seal the metallic ink very well.
I find any good "artist's sealant" works well and you don't have to worry about looking at the ingredients when buying. And as RT says, it takes very little to seal a 1/4 page of cs.
I just tried this technique for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Here's the link to my card which has directions on how I did it as well as a couple of links if you scroll down to my post. Good luck ! Have fun!

I used 91% Alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) when I did this technique and it worked like a charm. One precaution - if you get too much gold metallic ink on the card stock, it can look muddy.

is it normal for the cs to curl a bit? the coloring also isn't very smooth - kind of dotty. does that mean i need to put more drops on?
My first tries were "dotty" too. I found that adding a drop of alcohol directly to the Glosy CS and then dropping the ink into that kept that from happening. You may need to keep trying till you get the look you want. If you'll check my previous post on this thread I gave a link to my card that I did. I believe there are also links to directions. Don't give up , I found it's kinda trial and error. (Here's my card link)
As far as the alcohol is concerned, my bottle says Isopropyl rubbing alcohol (70 %). I don't believe I've seen any directions that didn't use alcohol for this technique.
I've finally gotten it to work pretty well! Thanks ladies!!! One question. I am using ultrasmooth white cardstock. Is there much of a difference between that and glossy white? Is glossy white better? I am making my own wedding invitations and am thinking of doing the polished stone as the background with the printed vellum over. Should I use glossy white??
I've always used Glossy CS. I have never talked to anyone who has tried the Ultrasmooth. Try the Glossy and go with what you like best, The dotty appearance may have also been from using the Ultrasmooth. It's probably not as "workable" due to the porousness (is that even a word ) of the CS.
