Will someone tell me what I am doing wrong. I went to Michaels and bought the prisma pencils (for 40% off) and a blending pencil and blending stumps. I did not get gamsol so tried the baby oil. I bought 110 lb. paper from Georgia Pacific at walmart. I can't get the hang of this. When I color, then try to blend, if I use the oil, the paper gets all oily on top or if not on top, then underneath. Is this normal. I can't seem to blend a big picture. I color around edges and then the stumps (from China) won't move the color very far. Then, if I use more oil, it becomes oily. So I tried to pencil. It's not that great. I moved it up and down and tried circles. It's okay.
I used VERSAFINE because someone said it won't smear. It smeared. So what kind of ink do I use.
Any advice would be great. Oh, and what kind of eraser do I need to get?

I got Prismacolour Pencils from Wal-Mart and I used Gamsol. I loved the look, but I don't pull them out enough. I went to a local artists supply store and got the Gamsol. It works much better than oil and it doesn't leave a residue - it disappears. They only had huge containers at the time, but the salesclerk gave me a small sample size for free - perfect! I bought an eraser there as well. I don't remember the brand or anything, but it's an eraser that you can re-shape - it's grey and small. Works really well.
Thanks for posting about this - I don't do enough watercolouring -I will have to make an effort to use them again!
I use Stazon ink with odorless turpentine (Gamsol) for my prismacolor pencils. I love it! I'm pretty sure I have used the georgia pacific paper and had great results. I never tried baby oil... that might be the problem.
I had to buy the turpentine from an art store and got this HUGE container, but I think Gina K sells a smaller bottle of odorless mineral spirits on her website, and have heard that works well too.

I bought MONA LISA odorless paint thinner at hobby lobby in a small plastic childproof bottle. I use stazon ink so the color will not bleed. Also it is best to use water color paper. Please be very careful not to eat, drink or heaven forbid, smoke while using any paint solvent. I also use the stumps I find at hobby lobby from Taiwan. I got my prismacolors at H L as well with the 40% off coupon. Make sure you bought the prismacolor pencils, not the prismawater color pencils. This is my favorite technique in card making. Hope this helps.
I bought "Odorless Mineral Spirits" at Lowe's...super cheap for a can that will probably last a lifetime! I also use the GP white with this and no problems...sounds to me like it might be the baby oil.
Just a head's up that the reason the baby oil does not work with VersaFine is that VersaFine is an oil-based pigment ink (the only one I know of). Therefore, you're mixing oil with oil, so it will definitely bleed. HTH!
Kinda.. I think it's odorless mineral spirits (not sure if that's the same thing). I've never tried baby oil. I've heard others say it works, but I think you'd get weird oily stains. Try to find some odorless mineral spirits (I found the brand Turpenoid) at my local craft store. I've heard others just bought theirs at Home Depot, but that stuff might be stronger (for the nose.. that is). You don't need the Prisma blender pencil either. Just the colored pencils, stumps and OMS. Check out this link from SweetMissDaisy's blog for more info: http://sweetmissdaisy.typepad.com/sa...cks/index
