I loved this tutorial a couple weeks ago- for stamping on the tile to make coasters- and you all had so many beautiful ones that you made. I felt inspired. So whats the problem you ask? Well I went to Menards, thats what we have here for a home improvement store, and can't find tiles like these anywhere!!! And the sales person didnt help much either. All we could find were huge 8 x 8 ones, and thats a huge cup you'd have to have to use that coaster... or the right size ones were really glossy, non-porous, and most already decorated. Can you help me?
Kristina, Here in Texas we can get "tumbled tiles" at Lowes and also Home Depot. You could try looking on the internet but it would be expensive to ship.
I got mine at Home Depot. (Lowe's didn't have them.)
You definitely have to get the tumbled tiles because they are porous and have no gloss what-so-ever.
Good luck to you! I hope you find them.
You might also look at Floor & Decor. If you have one - they have a HUGE selection. When I was making some coasters for my sister - I went there so I could get a large assortment to play with. (And granite tiles to make into hot plates.)
I found mine at Home Depot in the tile department. They come 9 in a box for just under $5. Someone else said they found there's at Menards but ours does not carry them. I checked a tile store and had no luck. Good luck shopping!

At Menards they come in a pack of 9 tiles. They do not sell them single there. I buy mine at our Menards. Ours are by the tiling on a bottom shelf. They are not called tumble tile there either. Truthfully I have never seen a name by them!
These are the ones that I buy and use without any problems, BUT I don't think they are the actual "tumbled tiles" that some people speak of. At my Lowe's those only come in a box of nine for a little over $5. Having said that, you difinitely CAN use these...I would not say they don't have any shine, but it is minimal. I like them because A. they are cheaper and B. they don't have as many "imperfections" which makes it easier to stamp on, IMO. I still do the same steps (baking, etc.) and I don't seal them. HTH!
Okay--I had read the tutorial on the tiles, but it didn't say anything about baking them. Am I missing an important part of the directions? I have 20 tiles sitting here to make 5 sets for Christmas gifts.

I bought these same tiles, and the staz-on WASHED OFF!!! But I didn't bake them. If I bake them will that work? Have you washed yours????
I the past I have gotten these the tumbled tiles at Lowe's in a white box of 9 for $5.74 that were called Bottichino. I went for more over the weekend and couldn't find them but did get some others that look the same, I got then at Lowe's and they are called tumbled marble, they come in a gray box of of 9, I paid $5.38. They are a natural stone so they absorb the moisture from a glass, that's why they work better than the "shiny" Rialto tiles. I have used stazon and baked them for 20 min. and still looks great after lots of use 8 months later.
OH SHOOT!!!! I just made some of these because I finally found them at Menards... and I gave them to someone as a gift. The tutorial didnt say ANYTHING about baking them!!!!!! Are we supposed to? what happens if we dont??? when and how am I supposed to? dang.
I have made tiles using chalk that I did not bake but did seal. No smearing. I do bake them when I use stazon = 30 minutes at 300 degrees.

I have only done them with StazOn and sharpies and baked them. I think sealing them would stop them from being able to absorb the moisture from the glass. Just my humble opinion, I think there are a lot of different ways to do them.
