Default Removing Printing from Altoids Tin

Has anyone been able to do this? If so, how?

I haven't worked with tins, however, my understanding of different directions I've come across is folks paint the tin before embellishing it. I will be curious to learn if there is a way to remove the wording without ruining the metal.

The way the tins are printed, it's just easier to paint them before using them. I've done several and have painted all of them.

There was a recent post on this site with a link to another site (unfortunately I can't find the thread, but will come back here if I do).

The person on this website recommended opening the tin and spraying with oven cleaner. Place the tin in a grocery bag and roll up several times to close. Place bag in hot sun for several hours. Apparently the oven cleaner takes the printing right off.

Aha! No sooner than I post...then I find what I was looking for. Here's the link to the site I was talking about. If you access the how-to articles, you'll see what I was talking about above (along with some other cool stuff...she stamps on juice lids (among other things))! :p

Sounds like too much work, especially when this site sells plain ones in many shapes and sizes!
