Default rubber cement technique questions

Ok so I tried the rubber cement technique...drizzle it over glossy paper, let it dry, brayer on ink...the problem comes in with the brayer. I couldn't seem to get it to cover the page completely where the rubber cement was...like I couldn't get close enough to the rubber cement to have a nice clean crisp line when it is removed...so some of my lines are great and some are fuzzy and look awful...is this just part of the "look" of this? What brayer do i need? I used the rubber one...will foam work better? Also how do you get the rubber cement off? And one more question...does the ink ever dry on the glossy paper...the regular ink not craft ink? Am I just being impatient?

Thanks for your help!

I always use a sponge or dauber with the classic ink and rub in a circular motion. Most of the time I use 2 - 3 different colors when I do that.

I've done this and used the foam brayer, it works great. When using it do it in all directions to coat well. The regular ink does dry quickly on glossy paper. Also to remove the cement I use what's called an adhesive remover. It's a square rubber eraser to remove rubber cement. HTH

You can also use a paper towel to rub off the rubber cement. In fact in between each color I lightly rub the old ink off the cement before applying a new color.

When doing multiple color it isn't coming out all that well...I used a sponge rather than the brayer and that helped a lot. Do I need to wait until the ink is completely dry before I do the next layer of rubber cement?

Keep the tips coming!

I try not to let my rubber cement be very thick. That makes the lines a little more crisp.

Also, I run the brayer over the piece several times to avoid lines. It tends to even the ink out. After I do that, I let it dry for a minute or so and then, wipe off the ink from the rubber cement so that it doesn't smear when I remove it from the cs. If this doesn't make sense, PM me and I will do my best to help!

Hope that helps a little. Good luck!! This is a really fun effect!
