Default Scratch N Sniff spiced up!

I had heard before about making the scratch and sniff/scented cards by mixing a tsp of jello powder with a tsp of EP. Yesterday I decided to try it with Pumpkin Pie Spice instead for some Thanksgiving cards and my cards smell SOOOO yummy. I'm very happy with the outcome and thought I would share.

There are probably a hundred others that have already done this, but I feel like I invented it for the moment. lol

Default Koolaid

I had tried this technique by adding Koolaid to the EP. The color on the sugar ruined my cards. It still smeared after being heat set with EP. Anyone else have this problem? Does the Jello have this problem as well?

Okay...What is EP? Embossing Powder? How do you do this? I am in the middle of making my Thanksgiving cards and this would be awesome for them. Thanks for the idea and help.

You need to use products that do NOT contain sugar.

Yes, EP = embossing powder

You have to use sugar free kool aid and jello, maybe that is the problem?

I've read about the spices and kool aid. Often wondered if you could do that with unsweetened cocoa powder and EP. Wouldn't that chocolate candy stamp set be awesome embossed with this stuff? Any one try it?

Hello there, I just though I would share another way to send a sweet smelling card to a friend. I recently mixed instant coffee grounds with EP and got a wonderfully coffee smelling card. I am sure I am not the only one who has done this, just thought I would share.

Ok I tried the peppermint thing I used a Peppermint Flavoring for candies, I only used it with one of my .50 foam stamps from Michael's, but it did work It's oil based, so I'm not sure how that might react with the rubber stamps. But You could stamp the image and then apply the "scent" with a brush before the embossing powder.

I would like directions too I think I have an idea what you are talking about but I need to see it on paper to understand better.
Wow! reading all of those posts with the different types of sents used sounds exciting. I was wondering too if the liquid flavorings like the pepperment would work too.

I really need to sit down and play around and make some cards. There is so much stuff I want to try/do. I am kind of new at this card making rubber stamping stuff.

Tried the Peppermint thing again, but this time I used Peppermint extract Since it has alcohol in it, I would make sure to wash your stamps really well

Now I'm thinking of all the possibilities There are tons of extracts out there, strawberry, lemon, maple, anise, banana etc.... I'll let you all know if it still smells nice in a day or so

What I did was ink my stamp with versamark, then a classic color, then put a tiny drop of extract on top with a small paint brush. Stamped and embossed with clear. The extracts are quite strong, so a little goes a long way

Like I said it's an experiment in progress and I will let everyone know how things are in the next day or so. It smells yummy now, but who knows what will happen in 2 days or more.

The smell will probably fade pretty fast with the alcohol-based extracts. If you have essential oils*, you can put a drop on a piece of blotter paper and stick it between cardstock layers. That will last longer, and would be a good way to get your peppermint scent.

I read once that you can just stick your completed cards inside a plastic bag with something scented, and after a while the cardstock will absorb some of the scent. I think their example was those perfume samples that come in magazines. Even if it's subtle, that's OK; you don't want to knock them over with the smell!

*You can find essential oils at a natural foods coop or store

I also made my kid's valentines (they helped) with the Kool-aid for the scratch-n-sniff cards - the heart was already red but the problem I ran into was that it smelled so good that the kids (4th graders) were trying to eat it off the cards. Is the EP safe for that?
sidenote - about 8 years ago when my son was toddling around, some gold ep powder made it into his mouth - and all over the floor. He still is around so I guess it's not deadly.

Default Scratch and Sniff Cards

Okay, I tried to do this technique last night and must have done something really wrong because it just didn't work. I'll tell you what I did, and someone tell me what I did wrong. I stamped the leaf in VersaMark, I had about 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tsp. SU Copper Embossing Powder mixed together. I sprinkled it on top of the stamped leaf and when I put the heat gun on it nothing happened. I touched it and it all rubbed off. Can someone tell me what I did wrong because this sounds so nice to do for the holidays?
Thanks,
Cindy

Nope :( Not really. If you do this and send it right away, it should be ok. But much more than a week and it almost completely loses the scent. Although the oil lasted longer than the extract, but the scent wasn't as strong. Darn I thought I found something new and exciting.
