Default shaker cards: easy way to punch a window

I thought I would share a tip I discovered on how to make easy shaker card windows. This may not be new but even the SCS tutorial on shaker cards doesn't go into details on how to easilly make the window. I had to demo shakers at my stamp club last night and I try to teach things in such a way that people feel confident to try it again on their own. Creating the window is always the tricky part. Using a square punch seemed like an easy way to go but how do you line up the punch to get an even window?
I used a 1 3/8" square punch on a piece of cardstock that was 2 5/8" square. We used a pencil to draw lines from corner to corner to it created an X. Using the punch upside down, you line up the pencil marks in the corners of the punch and that way you get a perfectly centered and even window.
If you are a visual person, check out the tutorial with photos on my blog, the link is in my signature line.
Now I realize this won't help with odd shaped or sized shakers but this method is an easy place to start for those who have never tried a shaker before or have been frustrated about lining everything up right.

Great tip!! I bet this idea can be used for centering other punch outs. Now I just have to figure out how... hmmmm.
