Hi All,
I called myself searching but i guess I just didn't do it right. Anyway could someone please tell me how to stamp on candles. My husband and I went to a warehouse yesterday and bought a couple of candles pretty cheap so I could practice.
Please remember that I am so new to this all it is a shame. So what I am trying to say is I need baby steps.
TIA
Sandy

Its really not hard, but practicing is a good idea. You will need the candle, some tissue paper, your stamps, scissors, and an embossing heat gun.
Cut out the tissue paper to the size of the candle, or the size of the area you want stamped on the candle. Then wrap that tissue paper around the candle like you want it to appear, and heat the tissue paper with the heat gun, the wax will dry making the tissue paper virtually invisible. If you heat it too hot the tissue paper will turn slightly brown, so that is why it is a good idea to practice.
You can also wrap wax paper around when you wrap the tissue paper around the candle.... this will cause some of the wax to melt the tissue onto the candle a little better.
Choose any size candle, cut white tissue paper the height and the length around the candle. Also cut a piece of wax paper the same size only a little bit longer, hold for later.
Stamp images on tissue paper (Warning, ink goes through so protect your surface, I learned the hard way...)Solid stamps with bolder colors work better.
Use just a tiny amount of glue/adhesive to hold the ends of the tissue paper together after wrapping around candle.
Grab that piece of wax paper and hold around the candle. The reason you needed to cut it a little bit longer than the tissue papaer is so that you can hold the ends of the wax paper together to use to help hold the candle.
Here's the tough part- with your heating tool (blow dryer thingy for heat embossing...) heat all sides of the candle so that the top layer of candle melts just a little bit. You will see the tissue paper become absorbed in the wax, the wax paper helps to put a layer of wax on top of the tissue paper. Roll the candle on hard surface as you go to get lumps out.
Let candle wax cool There will be some bumps, uneven surfaces but that is where the glitter comes into play!
Cover the candle (sides only, not the top, bottom, wick) with glue, I use Modge Podge.
Roll in glitter.
Voila, you now have a cute candle!

let me see if I have this right.
1. cut a piece of tissue paper ( I assume you mean the kind you use for wrapping gifts.)
2. Cut a piece of wax paper just a little larger than the tissue paper.
3. Stamp my image on the tissue paper and wrap around candle , hold in place with a small amount of adhesive.
4. Wrap the wax paper around and the excess you cut when you cut it a little larger you hold to keep in place.
5. Heat with heat gun.
6. Let cool and then roll on flat surface.
Did i get this right?
About the heat gun. How close do i hold this to the candle?
You guys are great . Thanks alot

Yep, thats how you do it. Hold the heat gun a few inches away from the candle, you will see the wax paper kind of start to sweat, thats when you know to move to the next area. Sometimes, I will heat after I take the wax paper off if I see some place that doesn't look like it absorbed into the candle.
Here is a different way to apply our stamping to candles. After you cut around the tissue paper, I use decoupage finish, and a foam brush. Brush over tissue paper and wait for it to dry. The only thing is, you have to color in your stamped image with Sharpie markers or a marker that is permanent and will not run. No heat gun used, so the candle will look just the same, no drips of wax or bumpy areas. Also, after you stamp your image, I turn the tissue paper over to color in.
I have had better luck using my blow dryer instead of my heat gun. The heat gun can get too hot and melt the wak too quickly causing dents in my candles. Also I prefer to cut as closely aroud the image as possible and have multiple smaller pieces of tissue to apply to the candle. Just another way to try it out.
That makes alot of sense. I will have to try that too. I have 2 large candles to work with so I can try different things and figure which works best for me.
Thanks again

Sandy - I made my candle a little differently. After stamping on the tissue paper, I cut the image out as close as I could to the stamping... then, just had small pieces to 'melt' to the candle.
Should you want to have a metallic look, just use Encore ink and stamp image on tissue paper and cover with embossing powder. With a light use of the heat gun, emboss like anything else. Cut out the design as close to the edges as you can. Heat the candle until slightly soft and stick your embossed design onto the wax., smoothe with your finger... You can use the heat gun with quick swipes to the area to ensure adherence but be careful as the embossing will melt if too much heat is applied.
Dumb question here but I have to ask.WON'T THE PAPER BURN.or will it just get distorted and melt away once the heat gets to that point .just really new at some of these techniques.or is this just for show.I want to know so If I make some for gifts.Since my parenst love candles.I know they will ask me.
Also what is the best kind of candle to use for these.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a quick question can I use darker colored (red) candles? Will the stamping on the tissue paper show up. Any tips for doing it on colored candles
