Lightbulb stamping on magnets ?

I recently purchased a sheet of 12x12 tiles at Home Depot and I figured I could pull them apart and make them into magnets. I tried using stazon ink today to stamp on them but the stamp just slides, the image does not come out clear. This is my first time trying this, any pointers? Appreciate the help I would like to make these for Christmas presents.

I do not have the answer for you, but I believe that if you look under Techniques, it will walk you through the steps that you need to take.

I hope that helps!

I,too, had troubles at first. It is very important to stamp straight up and down, try not to waver back and forth...try to be somewhat quick. Be sure to give the staz-on plenty of time to dry, then color in with markers, watercolor pencils, etc. Hope this helps.

I got the stamping part down but what do you use to color the image in with? I have tried the SU Markers and regular markers and nothing seems to stay. Then last question what do you spray the magnet with. Is it true that hairspray will seal them?

You could probably use sharpies to colour it. I'm not sure about hairspray as a sealant, but Krylon would probably work.

You can use colored sharpies to color but just fyi when I tried this with stazon ink it seemed to react together and the lines will smear if you color over them at all leaving a messy image.

I'm thinking that the OP is meaning a sheet of the slick glossy glazed 2x2 tiles which are meant for bathroom floor tiles and come attached in a sheet with thick "glue plugs". If that is the case, here are some things I have found to make it easier. First, don't buy the slick glossy glazed ones, they are harder to stamp on and the ink will come off when it gets wet. If you have already got them, I did find that painting a light coat of the white Lumiere paint (SU used to carry that) over them gave the surface a little "tooth" for stamping and made it easier to stamp and color them. When I stamp, I use StazOn but color with a blender pen and either Lumiere tinted with SU classic reinkers or craft pads and the blender pen (picking up some of the color which pools in the lid of the pad).

Far easier to purchase the DalTile "abrasive" tiles which are also glazed/sealed tiles but have a rougher texture on them, not the slick enamel type. They are available in Artic White but you have to special order those (Home Depot let me order a sheet of them, same price as the others) or go with the light beige color that most of the stores have in stock. I prefer the brightness of the white tiles to show off our great colors but sometimes I have to use what I can get.

I haven't spray sealed any of the fridge magnets because STazOn doesn't usually like sealers and will bleed and they aren't going to be beat up with excessive usage if they are on the fridge. If I felt that I absolutely must seal them, I would go with a very light touch, just a spritz and from at least arm's length away from the ink to prevent bleeding. Jan

Help! What do you use for magnets? Where do you get them? The magnet I used did not hold the tile on the refrigerator.

Default Magnet adhesive?

The problem I had is not knowing what kind of glue to use to stick the magnet to the tile. What works, please?

Thanks,
Leslie

I use ceramic 1" discs, (hot glue them on) that I order online Just key word in ceramic magnet discs. Really inexpensive, and they hold weight up to 1lb.! You will love the results!

Default stamping on magnets.

You can stamp your images on tissue paper , color them with markers. then attach them to your tiles with diamond glaze, then seal them with another coat of diamond glaze when dry. As for what to glue them with use ultimate glue, its sold at michaels and will hold everything.

When we made them we used a lot of hot glue to attach to the magnet - if you don't use a big glob they don't seem to stick.

Forgot - we used the round magnets that come in the packs from Wal Mart or Michaels. They were in yellow packages when I bought them last

Default tiles

I've done these before and it is a pain. However you can try this:
Use a glass and tile consealor first or I think its called surface conditioner,(Delta is the one I used). Let dry completely. You can use Stazon or what I did was to use acrylic paints. Just don't use a lot. Kind of dry painting on the stamp. Again let dry completely. Last I used Delta sealer.
I made coaster one time with tiles, but I didn't use shiney ones. I used the ones that are more stone like. I stamped apples with Stazon. I first cleaned the tiles with mineral spirits or plain vinegar, and a sealer afterwards. (also Delta)
Hope this helps.
Where there's a will there's a way!!!!
