Default Watercolor pencils vs Aquapainter with ink vs Colored pencils with gamsol & stump

Which of the following do you prefer?

Watercolor pencils (with waterbrush or aquapainter)

Aquapainter with ink

Colored pencils with Gamsol and stumps?

Do they achieve different looks or pretty much similar? I'd love to hear more about this as I'm still learning.

Aquapainter with ink is my preferred method to use, but I like how all 3 of the methods you mentioned look, if that makes sense.

I haven't ever used an aquapainter with ink but I have the other two. You will get quite different results but for the fun.....I prefer the pencils with gamsol. It is a little more controlled than the watercolor with water.

Smile gamsol

Can someone tell me or explain what is GAMSOL? I have never used it. How do you use it with color pencils? All I ever used is a Dove blender (which kinda helps) or a blending stump with my color pencils.

Thanks, Carol

Red face gamsol

Never mind my first reply. I found out my answer in a different thread.
I am still learning the system.

My two favs are pencils/gamsol and aquapainter/ watercolor pencils. To me they give very different effects - the pencils/gamsol is much more intense and can be more easily controlled. And with the variety of prismcolor pencils, I'm better able to shade than with the watercolor pencils. But the watercolor pencils/ aquapainter are so convenient - I can use them in the family room while watching TV.

I use the aquapainter to pick up a bit of ink from the top of the pad (or pressed onto another plastic surface) when I need to match the exact color. If SU came up with pencils in their colors, I'd probably never use the brush/ink option.

I like my aqua brush the best with watercolor pencils. However, I don't make as many mistakes when I use Gamsol.
