I tried several different papers and had the best luck with "naturals white and naturals ivory" they worked better even than watercolor paper. Also, the technique really only works with a 2 step stamp with a dense image and then an outline type image.
1. Stamp the dense image stamps in craft ink leaving some room between the images.
2. Heat set the ink.
3. Stamp the same images in versamark slightly off center from the first set of colored images.
4. Emboss with clear embossing powder.
5. Using an aqua painter or paint brush, wash the entire piece of cardstock with 2 colors of dye(classic) ink (I have the best luck with a green and a blue) and work the 2 colors until you get a watery look.
6. Sandwich the piece between 3 sheets of copy paper (one on the bottom and 2 on the top) and with a hot iron press until all the embossing is removed (like the batik technique)
7. Stamp the line images in dye ink, again slightly off center of the other images and in a slightly darker shade.
8. Using the same colors that you did the watercolor wash, stamp a speckle background or spatter with a toothbrush and ink.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. I taught this tech at an advanced class yesterday an around steps 4 and 5 everybody was grumbling that their card looked "aweful" but by the time they finished the last steps all 8 were stunning!
I think this is the most beautiful card and I am about half way through it! A couple of questions, though. Step 5:How about using the aqua painter and the watercolor wonder crayons? I'm not sure how you mean to "wash". Just dab the brush onto the classic pad? Thanks.....can't wait for the finished card!!
Holly, why do you use craft inks the first time around??? Your cards are gorgeous, I got to see them from someone else doing this technique and asking them and they directed me to your link.
I think one done a little larger and framed would be a perfect pretty picture... I feel they're very Monet like! So beautiful, thanks for sharing.
I had never seen these cards so I am thrilled to have found this thread! You have such an eye for color! You are indeed, Inkerella!! I am going to try this and your words are encouraging about your class' experience!!
