Someone on the TJ newsletter said the Prisma codes were just good through 3/27. I know if it were me I'd still try - but that deal may be over. But, Michaels carries the same set for $149 and with a coupon you could get it down considerably. Also heard Hobby Lobby puts them on sale half off occassionally.
Good luck!!
Debbie
Hobby Lobby has them 50% off this week. However, I'd still try Viking!!

If you go to search and type in "Gamsol" there have been several threads the last few months that discuss Gamsol, alternatives, and places to buy it. Hope this helps!

It is a special liquid that you buy that works with the prisma colored pencils to blend them. I have been looking high & low for some at local craft stores & they all look at me like I am an idiot. I think Gamsol is the brand name. I was told it is similar to mineral spirits, but this could be wrong information.
Good Luck!

Is gamasol the same as Gum arabic? Gum arabic increases brillaince, gloss and transparency of water colours. Controls spread of wet on wet. Reduces staining. (this is what is says on the bottle.
BTW - you'll get the most out of this site using the Search functions. I find myself going back to reference techniques, products, etc all the time. Go to Search/ Advanced Search or Search Forum...
Ok don't laugh but I see post everywhere about this Gamsol, what is it lol and where do you get it use it and how much about lol. I have never seen it and i have only two stores to shop from. thanks

Why did she make things? Well, she enjoyed it, of course; it also somehow helped her remember who she was and where she came from.
What is gamsol? How does it compare to blender pens and aquapainters? Also, is the aquapainter very wet or is the amount of water controllable? I see so many gorgeous watercolor jobs on the site and would love to know how you all acheive the look.
If you take the safety precautions of not putting it under your nose when working with it, keeping it up high if you have kids, don't put it next to anything that could ignite it like a furnace, stove, or water heater, and crack a window when working with it if you are still worried (I don't), then you shouldn't have any problem. There is a lot of safety info on the net if you google "gamsol" or "oderless mineral spirits". I use it several times a week and seem to still have my senses. ;)

According to the can - GAMSOL is:
Gamsol is the safest, cleanest form of Odorless Mineral Spirits. Gamsol is a 100% pure odorless mineral spirit; an alternative solvent for oil painting. Strong enough to thin oil colors and Gamblin alkyd resin mediums Gamsol cannot dissolve damar or other natural resins, and will cloud damar varnish if used as an extender Gamsol can be reused until the solvent will no longer clear.
Gum arabic, on the other hand, is a emulsifier, humectant and thickener.
Gamsol available at: http://www.artsuppliesonline.com/cat...m?cata_id=7450. Is shipped as hazardous and requires special shipping but you can print the page and take to your local art store so that they know what you are talking about. Generally won't find in the art section of Michaels or JoAnns but try a "serious" art supply store near a university or college or artist's colony
Info on instructions for use at www.inkyantics.com
I have a quick question. What is gamsol exactly and where do I buy it? I know you use it with prismacolor watercolor pencils. The cards on SCS always look so much better when gamsol is used. I've tried WalMart, Michaels, & Hobby Lobby. Nobody knows what I'm talking about. Please help! Thanks.
And you use it with the regular colored pencils not the watercolor ones!
I found mine at an art supply store called Prizm but I'm not sure if it's a national chain.
I just wanted to add that I was reading more on this technique on this site today and many of the ladies here were saying that the Gamsol brand is higher quality and was preferred over the Mona Lisa brand.
I asked the art teacher at the school I teach at about gamsol. She didn't recognize the name and looked it up in a catalog of her's and said , Oh that is just like "turpenoid". She gave me a small bottle and said try it. I really haven't yet. The write ups for both products looked very similar and more artist stores carry "turpenoid". Is gamsol is a brand name ?? Has anyone tried "turpenoid"?
Turpenoid comes in two kinds. The regular Turpenoid and Turpenoid Natural. Turpenoid Natural is better for people who have allergies and is non toxic.
Turpenoid Regular and Gamsol are considered to be in the toxic catagory and have a material safety data sheet that should be read closely. They cannot be used if you are pregnant and should not be used by children or around children or pets. Check the Weber website for more info on Turpenoid, or Dick Blicks on line website for info on all brands of odorless Mineral Spirits.
I love my local AC Moore- tust went to get my prismacolors and didn't get my coupon in the paper today- so I told them and they still gave me the 40% off! Gotta play now!
