Default Whisper White paper

I am trying to do the Brayered Sky technique, but I don't think I am using the right paper. Or else I am not brayering properly. Is there anything special about the Whisper White paper? I am just using generic cardstock, and I am getting visible lines from my brayer.

The photos in the tutorial, and all the cards in the gallery look so well blended. I'm certainly not good at this one!

Any tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

I don't even use Whisper White....I use glossy....the blending is much easier, IMHO. HTH

I use glossy too. The ink doesn't dry as fast so it's easier to blend. One trick to the brayer is to keep rolling over and over; that helps blend the lines. I also find it works better if you always roll the brayer in the same direction instead of back and forth.

One more tip about brayering. This comes from Sharon Rogers and I've seen that it's true. Always keep you brayer, when not in use, on it's back and not laying right on the rubber--that will create those very visible lines. Now that I no longer lay the brayer right on the rubber when storing, my brayering is much smoother.

Before I took Michelle Zindorf's class, I would use Georgia pacific and was never too happy with my end results from brayering. Yes, there is a difference in paper.

Try to remember this- GP is not coated, therefore absorbs the ink you place on it- good for copic coloring. Whisper White is a coated paper- it moves colors around on the surface- they do not absorb into the paper-blending a little better on the surface. Please do a side by side test like I did, and you will understand- the colors are even different from one to the other. I finally understand that is some cases- paper does matter! (So, use Whisper White for brayering)

Enjoy the brayering

Shelly

So....if I understand you correctly, the paper that would be best for Copics would NOT be the best choice for brayering, right?
