You can also purchase overhead transparencies from office supply stores, and the price is generally cheaper per sheet... if you don't mind having a lot of them. Transparencies are a tiny bit thicker than regular acetate sheets, but that's not always a bad thing, either.
Also, you can try searching the galleries here using the keyword "acetate" and see what comes up.
In addition to just the samples I did that create windows, you can do card bases using them, you can make "overlays" with them (snowflakes are a great thing to put on an overlay), or there are many techniques out there that use acetate sheets, too. Technique Junkies has a lot of uses for it, but you have to subscribe to get those. Oh my, the possibilities are pretty much endless with them, seriously. Just remember, if you decide to heat emboss on them, you just have to be very careful about not overheating them or they will warp/melt!

Hope this helps!
The overhead transparencies are what I use as well.
I've tried making acetate cards with overhead transparencies...and I can't seem to keep the acetate clean. By the time the card is finished, it's full of smudges, etc.
I ws thinking about trying to work with acetate yesterday. I'm making a set of notecards for my MIL's b-day with the Trees Three set and making four sets of four for each of the seasons. Love that set! Anyhoo, I need a way to present them and I thought I could make a box and make the top out of acetate. Anyone know of any templates for something like that

Me too. I purchase them years ago and rarely use them. But when I saw the word boxes I thought him.... sparkly filling would cover up all of my fingerprints and smudges.

If you have a serious problem with smudges, you could try putting a piece of tissue (kleenex) between the sheet and your fingers as you move around... that would keep the smudges away, and it would easily slide around to move with you. Just a thought.
