Default Anti static pouch question

hI ALL

i have a question about anti static pouch

i was using a home made one but its really messy and hard for shaker cards so awhile ago i bought the EK sucess one that everyone rave about on you tube incl jennifer mcguire

The powder stinkls like baby powder and then i noticed that jennifer mcguire say same thing and she has also moved to another brand (which i cannot find in australia not for this product)

I also found that it blocked up so i thought that the bag would be a better option than my home made one and at one point i was going to refill the EK success one but then i A misplace it and B i wasnt sure how to get rid of smell despite using only cornflour and C the brush on my has disintegrated i just did not think it was very good anti static tool!

So ive gone looking and wondering if anyone has experience with either the ranger one or the studio essentials one because theyre the two brands that i have found! Not easy to find themAT ALL!

So anyways im looking for something that does NOT stink like baby powder and works well for heat embossing!

Thats it really! the smell of the baby powder was giving me headaches and my makeshift one made with a chux cloth some cornflour tied with rubber band DOES work but it gets the powder everywhere and makes a bit of a mess!

Any help appreciated! the anti static principle really DOES help heat embossing its just getting something im not allergic to and doesnt stink etc that is the main thing!

thanks for your help

Someone asked about these anti-static pouches and I did a little research - here's the q/a from the newsletter a few weeks ago:

Q: Micheline asks: "What is an Embossing Buddy made of and is it something we could make ourselves?"

A: A little research revealed that what's inside these little anti-static pouches is an absorbent powder called Fuller's Earth - it's a clay powder that is often used in cosmetics, skin care products and absorbent cleaning products, and it's pretty widely available online. I've read that baby powder and cornstarch can also be used as a substitute. For the fabric pouch, just be sure to use cloth with a weave that allows the particles out very slowly with a little light patting motion - not too loose a weave, or you'll have powder everywhere!

Thanks for this

Im just wondering something do they all have the same product? And does it have a scent?

What i mean is jennifer McGuire recommends the inkadinkado branded one because she had same trouble as me with the scent but i xant find that particylar one here

And one possibility is to make my own but it would a lot sompler to buy it except i dont want to get it if theyre all this fullers earth product no wonder it smells so much- cosmetics and the other things listed all smell

I just wondered if either of the two i found have no or less scent than the ek sucess one?

Fuller's earth, by itself, doesn't have any scent. It's going to be whatever is added to it in making various products that has the odor. It is a natural material made by crushing naturally occurring minerals (aluminum silicates...aka clay) to a very fine powder. It's great at absorbing oils.

I don't find any odor with cornstarch either, so if the anti-static bag has it, or a mixture of Fuller's earth and cornstarch, there shouldn't be any odor there...unless something else is added.

How about a little ground up chalk? That's got no smell.

Yes, the ek success brush has an overpowering odor -like old lady dead roses powder. Yuck. I dumped all mine out and put in cornstarch and it still smells, but not as strong. I much preFer the little bag, though. I have one from recollections (michaels store brand) and it has no smell at all.

I love the smell of baby powder, and I don't mind the smell of the EK Success powder either. I don't notice any kind of aroma coming from my pouch, though. Pure cornstarch doesn't have any discernible smell to me, and that should work in the same way as the anti-static powders do.

I think I have an embossing buddy. It is really old. I have not noticed a smell.

could you skip the bag and just use a small makeup soft brush and brush it on? Then you use any powder you want. Dip it, tap off excess and brush? Use a bigger brush for bigger areas. You can also tilt and tap the card before embossing. And when doing the edges for a shaker you would have more control.

Thanks for explaining! So pretty much any bag should be OK as long as they dont add anything to it...

So i wrote to two shops one was really helpful but before able to buy they sold out the other one wasnt particularly helpful... now i have found a 3rd brand which is the ranger one. Ive decided to try it and if it doesnt work ill go back to just cornstarch some how!

thaanks for your help!

I think the bag would be easier both physically and mess wise LOL seriously if there is something that can make a mess i WILL! And i guess youre not meant to be lying at 20 degrees either! so yeah! I do the best i can! if the bag that i buy doesnt work then i will try brushing it on.....hopefully it wont come to that...its hard because it would mean id have to have another container of cornflour specifically for craft id have to remember to ask for it (cos bedridden) and yeah a bit hard!

but if this doesnt work then i will try that i wasnt really sure how much i needed for it to work but getting it all of the card the MISTI the stamps etc its a bit annoying!

thanks for your help!

I think you're on the right track, you just need to change the cloth to something with a tigher weave. Maybe try a good quality sock - I used a tight kit crew sock with baby powder for years.

I am sorry I forgot you are bedridden.

There is a powder bottle that has a small brush on the cap...I can't remember the brand....arrgh. Maybe someone else can. It is perfect for shaker walls and small areas but tedious for large areas. I would go with my poofer bag for that (that's what I call it. lol) That might be good for you.
