The water pen sounds like the AquaPainter that SU sell. You use it just like a watercolor brush. The advatange, however is that the pen holds water so you don't need to continually dip your brush into water when watercoloring.

Usually you'll want to stamp with StazOn or another permanent ink before attempting to use any kind of watercolor (pen, aquapainter etc.) to prevent bleeding and feathering of the ink.

The technique that Nicole used on her blog was to stamp in dye ink and then use the aquapainter or 'water pen' to bleed the stamping. If you use the 'water pen' to watercolor images you will want to use a waterproof ink such as staz-on or versafine so that the stamped image won't bleed when you watercolor.

Shivani - I saw the same technique on Nichole's blog. A "water pen" is like the aquabrushes that SU sells - a non-SU brand would be Niji or EK Success has them as well. I know you can get Niji brand at www.dickblick.com - joann.com probably has the EK Success ones; I know they sell them in the store.

However, you can accomplish the same thing with a paintbrush dipped in water (the waterbrushes are just so nice and portable and harder to spill)

For the technique Nichole demonstrated, you would have to use dye ink - pallete or STAZ-on won't feather out nicely like the dye.

Just so you know, Nichole used the EK Success aquapen... she listed it in her supplies. I also have to say that I *stink* at using the water pen - always WAY too wet!

I recommend the Niji pen. It has great water control. I haven't tried the EK Success one for a comparison though.

Nichole used SU classic inks and a water pen. SU sells a water pen and we call it an Aquapainter.
