I have been making a ton of paperclip bookmarks lately using the scallop circles and squares. (fun, fun, fun) Today I noticed that two of the dies are no longer making complete cuts! I'm having to snip hanging chads!! Is there such a limited life to these things or are mine defective? I've been using them with my BigShot, does that make a difference? I thought they should be fine. I don't know if I should try to exchange these or if I just have to shell out for new ones. Any help??

The other thing to consider is how marked up your cutting plate is. That's usually the culprit. When it gets too marked up, your dies don't cut cleanly anymore.
Could be your cutting pads are getting worn out. You might want to try switching the pads.
Exactly what I was thinking might be the culprit. Flipping them over often and placing your die in different places on the pad when rolling through should extend the life of your cutting pad. But they will have to be replaced when you're not getting clean cuts any longer.
I thought cutting pads too, but when I pulled back the foam, you can see a divit in the edge of the die. How could I possibly have broken the metal?? I'm going to try and exchage it, because I can't imagine what I could have done to cause this, it had to have come that way. The biggest problem is I can't find the receipt, so I'll just have to hope I can find a nice cleck to take pity on me.

I had the same trouble with a die that I had purchased. I was missing a little piece of the metal. I took it back to Michael's to exchange it and the clerk was rather hesitant saying that it had never happened before. She did exchange it for me. Sorry it happened to you but glad to know I wasn't the only one to get a factory reject!

Thank you!! I was starting to think I was losing it! Our Michael's isn't known for being cooperative, but I think I will try it. At least now I know I'm not the only one. Did you have the receipt?

Well, that's too bad! It would be easier if you just needed a new cutting plate, wouldn't it! Good luck at your Michael's today! If that doesn't work, try calling Provo Craft (don't email, I never get any response that way).
Hmm. I havent heard of that before. I'd contact provocraft on the telephone and alert them. Especially if the store gives you problems with the return.
Ooh, thanks for putting up the link. I have heard about these but never took the time to check it out... I'll be at the office store today and you can bet I'll be picking up some jumbo paperclips!
I'm thinking these would be really fun to make. I may add some to my customers' orders as a little extra thank you!
I have to admit I wasn't very optomistic when I went to Michael's this morning, but the clerk I talked to in the aisle just pulled down a new scalloped square set and handed it to me no problem! I didn't even have to go through the checkstand. Thanks for all the good advice!!

I am not liking what I am hearing here. I am in the process of deciding wether or not to buy one of these . But MAY HOLD OFF A BIT LONGER if people are having trouble with the metal and it chipping off. That doesn't sounds good at all.

I have to tell you, I have dozens of these dies and the square one is the first one I have had any trouble with. I also got the impression it is a very rare occurance. I wouldn't let my bad luck stop you from getting them, they are awesome!
